A lot of what shaped this story was my frustration with the original ACD Illustrious Client, which ended with two serious casualties and Sherlock Holmes saying basically, "Well it could have been worse..." when it was his sloppiness that kept the whole thing from being any better.
I fear that BAMF!John intends to hijack more future stories, but he certainly seems intent on involving Anthea, so Mycroft is likely to get dragged along as well. I've written a few paragraphs of doomed content from Anthea's point of view, so I'll see if she can't at least get parts of the story.
The characters themselves dictate a lot of the plot, it seems, which is good or the story would never have ended. That was why I had to be pretty careful with Ibn Hanna.
The original ACD Grüner was a tremendously vile and destructive creature in his late-Victorian/early-Edwardian setting. He was surprisingly easy to modernize.
