Writer's Block: Singles Awareness Day

Feb 14, 2012 12:25

My answer: I don't mind it at all. Do I get down at this time of year. Yeah I do. I wish I had a man in my life. A little frustrated by all the shadow boxing and game playing by Gay men nowadays that use online to mask their bad behavior, but that's a topic for another day.

On this day I find myself counting my blessings in my life. I came to Toronto nearly 10 yrs ago knowing hardly anyone, having no plan, and in the end built a life for myself. Spreading that love by getting involved in the Bear/Queer Community through Gen X Bears Toronto/Fur real/Bears By Nature. Getting involved gave me the power to stand up on my own and at times do things beyond my comfort zone like standing up to Mayor Ford during his attempts to place his austerity measures on this city and reminding him and his cronies that Toronto is not about "the taxpayers"- but it's about all of us. My involvement in the community came at a time where I was struggling to accept myself as a gay man. By getting involved it helped me help others and come to terms with who I am.

I am bless that my family and I are now building bridges towards forgiveness, peace, and understanding. This after a horrific house fire two years ago. The house burnt to the ground. It almost took there lives. Blessed that they are alive today.

Do I hate this day? No. Can I be a cynical bastard and say it's nothing more then a Hallmark Holiday. Perhaps?!?! But I prefer to celebrate in love and being in love with my life, friends and family. To me that's what matters the most!!

Happy Valentine's Day!
