A Mother's Work: Belladonna

May 10, 2008 20:23

Last year, for Mother's Day, I posted ficlets about Primula, Bell, Esmeralda and Eglantine. This year, I have a ficlet about the previous generation: Bilbo's mother "the famous Belladonna Took". It's about the rather eventful visit to Bag End of Bilbo's Took cousin, Siggy ( Read more... )

What a diplomatic letter! A delightful mother's day story. :)

*grin* Thanks! I think that it would really need to be diplomatic. But I can imagine her telling her brother about it later--when his wife wasn't around!

"Bungo ha given them essays.." I love that! Excellent idea. The truth beneath the letter :-)

I think that "essays" must have loomed large in the discipline of young gentlehobbits, LOL! And I'm sure neither of the lads thought of the consequences when they thought up their little plan!

What a charming story! No wonder Bilbo turned out to be the type of hobbit he was, with that sense of humor and sparkling outlook on life.

I'm so glad you like it!! I love writing about Bilbo's childhood--I think that it must have had a good deal to do with how he turned out later!

I've missed these stories!
What a thought to knock each other's teeth out for money!!! Oh, dear! Bungo could not know what his tradition would set in motion :) And of course it would be Belladonna who has to report to the family. A very well written letter though. No reason to worry over much for Siggi's parents :)

It makes me want to write something about Menegilda. Something along the lines of "Of Pranks and Experiments" only with younger Brandybuck brothers ;)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, it seemed perfectly logical to the kids at the time! No, I don't suppose any Baggins children ever thought of that--but Tooks were another matter altogether! LOL!

I'd love to see you writing about Menegilda--or even Mirabella! Do you suppose Rorimac, and Saradas and the other brothers were as rambunctious as Saradoc and Merimac?

Well, according to Saradas at the end of "Of Pranks and Experiments" Rorimac was worse than Saradoc and Merimac put together - although Rory denies it. Yes, I'm sure Mirabella had her hands full... after all she had Primula as well.

It is, definitely, child logic! I'm so glad you liked it--there really are not enough wee Bilbo stories around! (Has anyone *besides* me ever written any?)

*grin* I went looking, and found the one about little Bilbo trying to steal Gandalf's fireworks--but I couldn't find the other.

Link, please?
