Old Mill

WooHoo! I did it! Finally!

Yesterday I FINALLY made it to Old Mill, as I have been meaning to do for weeks. I finally got to start my student observation.

It was SOOOOO weird being back in that school! I got there really early (before the first warning bell) so I was walking in with all the kids...remembering when I was actually IN jail and not just visiting. Again I baby-stepped through the sea of students, startling at random explosive expletives from behind. It was amazing, that overhanging feeling of drudgery and exhaustion. That bleak, windowless hallway of never-ending hopelessness....::shudder::

Whew! THANK GOD I'm out of highschool. College is SOOOOO much better than highschool. Hands down.

Still, it was fun to FEEL those horrible things, but from the outside. I knew that in a couple hours, I'd be walking out of those doors into the (blinding) sunlight, and just a little longer after that, asleep again in my warm cozy bed. After all, I did have to wake up earlier than I have in months (highschool starts so fucking early! I forgot how ungodly early you have to be up to make it to first period).

Aaaaanyway, I sat in on Mr. Swansons class, which was really cool. They're doing the same things that I did in his class a few years ago. While they waited for the morning announcements (remember the morning announcements?), I "interviewed" him for the assignment that's due tomorrow, and I also asked him how he felt about the open enrollment in AP classes.

Diplomaticly, he said that he's happy everyone has the opportunity to take AP classes now, but realistically there were some drastic drawbacks. Whereas before the passing rate of AP classes was pretty much 100%. 100%!! Now he said a good percentage (though not more than half) fail! FAIL! An AP class! That you need to GRADUATE! Oiy....He also said that you have a good deal many more kids who dont read the books at all. And that you have to spend more time on disciplinary action.

I also ran in to Dr. Mitchell! That was nice, she has a very hip new hairstyle, it's really cute. She recognized me and asked about what I was doing there, and was happy when I told her I was trying to become a teacher. I asked her if she'd mind being one of the three teachers I had to interview, but she was going on a field trip that day. But, she said I could email her the questions and she'd get back to me the next day. She also offered me her classroom to observe. =)

More importantly though, I'm gonna be working as an AVID tutor with Mr. Whitley. This is important because I'll get the hands-on experience AND because it helped out my "community involvement" section on my application to CP. Fingers still crossed on that, btw. GAH! But I gotta ship out my transcripts to them first. Oiy. Actually, I should probably go do that now, since I'm already on campus and all...

Me and Chris's 2-year anniversary is coming up! 5 more days. =) I love you mi amor!
