i am incapable of writing a short story. here is why. i write 1,000 beginnings and they never go anywhere. i can't finish anything. ever. i always start books and never finish them. see? this is a problem.

why do my characters always stop?!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha, you sound like me, but I have 1,000 endings with no middles and barely any beginnings.

I'm pretty good at writing short stories, but my endings never end up being what I thought they would be when I wrote the beginnings.

i've heard you are supposed to have an end in mind when you start a story, and then you begin writing already knowing how it's going to end. i think that's what jk rowling said.

however, i like to see where my characters go ... let them take on their own lives and minds ...

... but i always leave room for a salinger-esque twist at the end :)

JK Rowling also barrages her readers with an overabundance of adjectives, something like 15 per noun.
