Actually using my tech theater training, woohoo!

A tiny segment of what I've been calling "Theme-Fest '09" - painting an arabesque-type decorative element on an entry wall.

(click on previews for larger images)

The entryway is too narrow to trace the pattern onto the wall with a projector, so I opted for a pounce pattern instead. You start with a drawing (or in this case, massive printout) of the pattern you want.

Then, on a soft surface like styrofoam or low-nap carpet, you trace a pounce wheel (they look like this) over the outline of your pattern, which results in lots of perforations.

Then you take charcoal powder, or powdered chalk, or any other clean-uppable powder that will show on your work surface, and tap it along your perforations to force the powder through your perforations onto the surface to be painted.

The result is a nifty connect-the-dot pattern. :)

And voilà - the image is where you want it!

This is the base coat - it's going to be a metallic gold when it's done (and hopefully the metallic paint will show sufficient shine with just one coat, 'cos there's a lot more to do and only a few days left to do it...

work, paint
