I know a lot of people on here probably aren't from the New Orleans area, but you can order gowns from them online. Just wanted to let you all know about my experience with them, in case that has any bearing on where you buy from.
In the never-ending drama that is Pearl's Place, I've had the last straw with these people. My dress has been getting altered since January. I had to go back in February and again in March and it still wasn't right. When I began fittings in January, Kathleen (seamstress) told me I was too early for fittings if I was taking my pictures in April. And get this the only thing I needed was an inch taken off the length and a bustle put in. THAT'S IT! Every time I've gone, the hem has been un-even and last time the bustle was put in with hooks and eyes, and Kathleen said she wanted it put in with ribbons because my dress is too heavy to hold it with hooks and eyes. Well, my pictures are on THURSDAY and I still don't have my dress. I was told to call this past Friday, that my dress would be finished with alterations, and have it steamed and ready for Tuesday. I just got back from Metairie sans dress because it wasn't ready. They said to come back at 2 and I would have, except I had my brother ride with me for that long drive and he had to be back here in Gonzales for work at 1. Now I have to make my second trip to Metairie in one day. If my dress isn't ready this afternoon I'll be beyond pissed.
Pearl's Place: D
Pros:
Great selection.
Great prices.
Great service when selecting my gown (Lisa Burke gets an A+).
Alterations and steaming included.
Seamstress (Kathleen) is very nice.
Cons:
Alterations have taken quite awhile (4 months) to get right (and I'm still not sure it's right yet) - because they use several who only get the dress and instructions: Kathleen who had been doing my fittings was upset with how they came out and put a note on it that she should be the only one to work on it.
Treated my mother rudely when she was looking for her dress.
Was told my dress would be steamed and ready on X day, and it wasn't.
I've also heard, from one of my best friends, that they treat their bridesmaids like dirt - they lost two of her gowns.
Vent over.
Edit:
My dress still isn't right. I still have hooks for my bustle. I haven't put it on, but the hem had better be right. GRRRR!
