SO! Lauren and I have decided to go a more non-traditional route with our wedding cake. Not only does it save some $$, (which he had to point out to me several times before I would listen, lol) but it's rather unusual, I think. :) We decided to go with cupcakes on a tiered stand, and a small groom's cake on the top. (Has to be SOMETHING for us to cut during the reception!) We're going through Tahoe Cakes by Grace, and our tasting was AMAZING.
My only issue was the stand I liked had been previously broken by a client, so we had to use one of her (IMHO) ugly ones. (No thanks) Or provide our own. I found a cute one, and I get to keep it, so that all came out in the wash. She also gave us the option of letting her pick the wrappings, or letting us choose the designs and providing them. :) We chose the latter, and I got to kinda set it all up, so I can imagine what it will all look like. :) (I stopped putting all the little black swirls on, I was worried about tearing the wrappers, but you get the idea.) I think it looks really unique! I can't wait to see what it will look like with the larger cake on the top. :)
Then my maids and I got to work on the flower girl basket and ring bearer pillow. They're done with silk flowers, and I think they look really nice. :) I'm not 100% sure about the pillow though, I feel like it's missing... something. Not sure what though. I'm also a teeny beet worried about losing the rings, and having them fall into the lake. My son is the ring bearer, and he is so proud of being in charge of them. I was thinking of attaching them to the pillow with the ribbon and pinning them. Then letting him take charge of the pillow just as he is about to walk the aisle, and handing the pillow directly to the officiant before he turns to take his place in line. What do you ladies think? I'd love to hear! Here are my before and after shots of our basket and pillow handiwork, if you're interested. :)
