I'm sure some of you have seen these DIY projects posted on various blogs. I thought I'd post my results.
I've been working with a client who wanted to alternate table centerpieces using milk glass on some tables and that vintage blue glass (like blue mason jars). They were very adamant that they would provide the blue glass. Soo... imagine my surprise when this is what I got:

Not exactly blue glass, right? I have about 12 of these that I own, but blue mason jars can be expensive ranging anywhere from $3-$10each.

So, I did a little hunting around and found a relatively easy DIY project. The link is here:
http://www.weddingbee.com/2011/11/08/diy-colored-mason-jars/ Supplies used were:
Vitrea 160 Dilutant Thinner
Vitrea 160 Turquoise Paint
Fan Brush or Sponge
Wax Paper
Jars.
Syringe (optional)
Small container to mix your paint.
If you go hunting around Michael's they may tell you the turquoise color has been discontinued. I let my fingers to the walking and found a Blick art supply store which had 5 bottles of the color.
To mix your paint, you need 1 portion of paint for 3 portions of thinner. I used my syringe. 1 syringe full of turquoise to 3 syringe full of thinner. This created enough paint to cover 39 containers of various sizes.

You then dip your fan brush and work quickly blending a thin layer of paint onto the jar. There will be some streaking. I ultimately gave up with the fan brush and used a sponge instead. Set it on wax paper or news paper to dry a full 24 hrs.

After it's dried, you'll see some streaks. Don't freak out. Set your oven to 325 and bake for 40min to help set the paint and get rid of some streaks. After you add water and flowers to the container, your streaks are hardly visible.

More DIY jars. I found if there is a pattern on it, it helps to hide the streaks better.
