We're getting married December 10th, 2011 and will have been together two-and-a-half years/engaged for almost a year (we got engaged last New Year's Eve). As it stands, we've got a lot of things together but a lot of things still not quite figured out. We have a snowflake theme and our colors are navy blue (David's Bridal marine) and silver.
The venue is
Affairs to Remember in Griffin, Georgia about a twenty minute drive from where we live. It's a chapel and home combined where we will have both the ceremony and the reception.
The last image is pretty similar to how it will be decorated: we're bringing our own centerpieces, but those are the linens we will be using, plus navy blue satin chair sashes.
Our centerpieces will be similar to
these that we found here on
weddingplans (though I've lost the username of whose wedding they were from); we've bought small hurricane vases from Wal-Mart and found some silver plate chargers on clearance around Christmastime that we will place under the centerpieces though I don't think we'll have the ribbon around the middle of the vase.
We're having an 11:30 wedding, officiated by my fiance's uncle, followed by a lunch reception. We're planning on doing the catering ourselves. I found
this website really useful in figuring out how to cater to 100 people without killing ourselves and doing it cost effectively -- having it catered was winding up to be more than double our total budget!
This is the cake we had in mind:
My aunt will be making a simple white three-tier cake and we will decorate it with navy blue ribbon and cake decorations from
this website. Our cake topper has already been ordered from
artzengraving on Etsy with a blue light up base.
I decided I didn't want a traditional white dress after looking for a suitable dress: I found not a single one in my price range that I was really satisfied with and I wasn't about to blow half of our budget on a dress I was going to wear once. I went ahead bought this bridesmaid dress from David's Bridal outlet online for $39.99 (;x) that I really liked and am planning on wearing it as long as nothing jumps out and grabs me before then.
(I'm taking a real picture soon since this is just one of those bad, replacing color photos from the David's Bridal website and this dress has since been discontinued.)
I bought a necklace from
BeasJewels and a headband from
2007musarra on Etsy that I plan to wear with it. I remain on the lookout for acceptable blue or silver flats because I'm a klutz and don't want to spend my wedding day limping.
These are some of the dresses that the bridesmaids (we've having three) have said they like and will be trying on in a few weeks when we go shopping:
As for bouquets, we're making ornament bouquets, as seen on
Offbeat Bride.
We've also bought a nice guestbook (to be paired with
this pen) and a ring pillow in our snowflake theme from
tessasdesigns on Etsy...
... and a unity candle and holder not in our snowflake theme.
We're planning on DIYing our wedding favors: these
hot cocoa cones look so cute and sound pretty easy to make and customize to our liking.
Lastly, these are the invites that we're ordering this weekend from
creatingapapermemory on Etsy, but we're thinking the back should be navy blue cardstock instead.
THINGS WE'RE STILL WORKING ON: Getting our engagement pictures done, narrowing down a vendor for tuxedo rentals, purchasing the bridesmaid dresses, deciding on a pair of bridal shoes, purchasing gifts for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, booking a hairstylist/make up artist or both, choosing ceremony wording, sending out invitations, finalizing a menu for the self-catered reception, making bouquets and wedding favors.
AT A LOSS ABOUT: The reception in general. We are having a cold lunch buffet with no assigned seating. We're not having a DJ and plan on doing an Ipod reception with potentially lightly playing Christmas music or some other quiet, generic music. We don't plan on serving alcohol (but this isn't really that unusual to me as I've only been to 1 wedding with alcohol in my lifetime and hardly anyone drank), dancing, doing a garter toss, or throwing my bouquet. The only traditional elements we're thinking of having are toasts and cake cutting. Will a 2.5 hour reception, from 12:00PM to 2:30PM, be extremely boring without the usual wedding trappings?
