Jes and I are both still in school...he's still in Lethbridge (2 hours south of Calgary) for school and will be graduating December 2011. I've finished university in Lethbridge and am now studying to be a MLT, living at home in Calgary and I won't be done until June 2012. So we haven't done any real planning yet, we're still just trying to come up with a blueprint. We're planning on paying for the wedding ourselves, so we'll need a year or two after school to save up and move back in together and such. All of our friends live in/around Calgary; his family lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and all of my family (minus my mom, dad and sister) all  live in Japan (although that's really not a big deal since I don't know any of them except for my one aunt & uncle). It's such a kaffaffle.

Anyways, I am amongst the group of brides who feels it's a little unnecessary and silly to spend TONS of money on one day. So I'm looking to spend as little as possible for my wedding...hopefully around $5,000. Honestly, I think if it came down to it, I'd much rather just elope and spend the wedding money on a big honeymoon adventure, because the more I research wedding stuff on the internets, and find out how much this crap actually costs, the more I feel compelled to do this lol. Jes and I are both pretty indecisive, so that kinda makes wedding planning a little harder. We've decided we don't want to have our wedding in Calgary, that is for sure. It's just not us. We've narrowed down our location to 2 major choices: Lethbridge, or the tropics somewhere (most likely Hawaii). They're complete opposite ends of the spectrum so I need your fabulous input to help!

Why Lethbridge? Because that's where we met and fell in love. The coulees there are beautiful in the summer, and it definitely has a much more relaxed, small town friendly feel to it. If we had our wedding in Lethbridge, I've already found our photographer and ceremony site, and I'm sure we could find a restaurant to host our small wedding party. I really think we could pull off our small forest-y wedding here, and everything would be more personalized, and plus, I'm pretty sure everything would come out to be a lot cheaper there. And Lethbridge will always hold a place near & dear to our hearts. It just feels kinda silly to have a destination wedding that's only 2 hours away from where we, and our friends will be living at the time, you know? It kinda feels like if we're going to have a destination wedding, it should be somewhere ... I don't know ... more grand?? I don't think it'll matter to Jesse's family, since they'll have to travel either way. It just seems like a lot of work to plan a wedding so close, yet so far from home.

Why Hawaii? Because to be quite honest...I love looking at and reading about all of your wedding planning, but I am much too lazy to do that for my own wedding! I just couldn't imagine the countless hours I'd be spending stressing out about mundane stuff like table liners. And plus I know diddly squat about all the details that go into wedding planning. I figured that this way, we could just let the resort handle all of the details and we would just show up and have a good, relaxing time. We've never gone to a tropical place before, let alone on vacation together before, so having the wedding in Hawaii would be an extra bonus experience! It could also count as our mini-honeymoon (we're planning on going on a big honeymoon for our 1 year anniversary to England/Ireland/Scotland). The thing is, I don't know if this would be any cheaper than having the wedding in Lethbridge...I still have to research this stuff. Nor does it really fit in with our proposed "theme", but that can always be changed.

Any thoughts? You guys always have really good, honest advice coming from all viewpoints, so I'd really love your input! We're still trying to decide on the location before we even think about setting the date or anything else.

And just so this isn't all text, here's a picture of us and my engagement ring! Its a Tacori design :D
I hope I uploaded the pictures right.....
