Plans So Far

Date: 02/04/12?

Guests: 50?

Theme: Eh... gerbera daisies + renaissance?  I've sort of got a mish-mash going on, but i'm hoping it works as well as it does in my head.  The colors will be (dark) red and brown.  No real reason, except that's what i wore on my wedding day, and i'd kind of like to tie the two days together somehow, even if it's just for me.

Here we are way back on our wedding day, 02/02/02.  We got married in a gazebo, overlooking Eureka Springs, AR for $40 (the marriage license cost more than the ceremony).  Maybe i'll wear that shirt again, or maybe i'll go fancy and buy a dress.  I haven't decided yet!

Location: My Back Yard

The trees and bushes will of course be more dead-looking and the grass about four shades more brown--this pic was taken in November.  I was going to take a more seasonal pic, but the snow from the big midwestern blizzard will not go away.  Hopefully this won't be the case next year, heh.  Usually there isn't snow on the ground here in February.

Only half of this is our property; the rest owned by some billionaire slumlords who really don't seem to care that we mow and let our kids play on it--i should probably ask permission before i throw a big party on it though.

I'm going to have to get some kind of tent in case the weather is bad.  Our weather is very unpredictable.  For example, the aforementioned blizzard.  But the year we got married it was 70 degrees and sunny.  I'm actually thinking about buying or borrowing an army surplus tent--is that weird?  They're so much sturdier than those silly white plastic things they rent out for weddings, and to buy one would only be double the cost of renting a 'wedding tent' for a day.  Maybe i can get some of my survivalist friends to go in on one together with me.  I'm still brainstorming here.  Maybe there's something big enough out there for camping purposes i could get instead.  I'm not set on 'white and fancy' obviously.  Mostly i'm thinking shelter if it rains.

Another thought: do i need to rent portable restroom facilities?  My house has three bathrooms.  I have a septic tank though; guess i should have that pumped in anticipation of heavy use or at least consult a professional about it, unless someone out there has experience they can share with me.

Clearance at Target, woohoo.  Haven't decided yet if i'll borrow a printer to do these, or if i'll teach myself calligraphy.  Probably going to be more work than i think it is, heh.

Thank-You cards to send after:

I'm not expecting gifts, since it's just an anniversary/vow renewal and not an actual wedding, but i didn't get any for my actual marriage, so i'm being optimistic, haha.  At the very least, i can thank people for showing up.

I'm undecided about sending out STDs or not; my relatives and friends live far away, so they'll need to plan for this in advance, but i don't know if i should maybe just send the heads-up by way of email instead.  This is all very low-budget.

Some inspiration stolen from the net:

Possible Cake (that i will make myself as at least the tier we would be eating has to be grain-free and sugar-free or my husband won't touch it):

Minus the boobie-dress and chocolate tux the strawberries at the top seem to be wearing, lol

These are my dream flowers:

But i'll probably have to go fake or see what they happen to have at Wal-Mart.  Did i mention i'm on a super stingy budget?  If all else fails, i'll grab a bunch of the same type i held during my wedding ceremony.  They won't cost me more than $10.

Here's an arch-thingy that's pretty cool and i could probably build from found materials in the wooded section of my yard:

That's pretty much all i've got--oh!  I'm about 80% sure there will be a live classic rock cover band.  Another reason i'll need a big tent.  Most of the guys are friends of the family and they've played for an event i put together before; i just had to say the word.  I'll offer to pay them, of course, but i don't think they'll break my budget at all; last time they were happy with cake and booze, lol.
