How To Get Polished?

Oct 13, 2010 18:26

I'm a little rough around the edges and very inexperienced with beauty maintenance.  I have good hygiene and I know how to paint my nails...  :P   But I want to be polished and shiny and glowing for my wedding.  As it stands I still have  almost a year and a half, but knowing myself, I need to start taking action now.

So.....   Has anyone met with a consultant in order to change (hide?) wash-and-go ways (if only just for the wedding)?

Or can anyone recommend a website that might be helpful in my situation?  Is there a timeline that covers skin, hair, teeth, weight loss, nails, etc that goes more than 5 months out like what Google found for me?  I need something more intensive than http://www.free-makeup-tips.com/wedding/bridal-makeup-planning.htm type stuff  and feel that it will take me longer than that to get everything as it should be.

Do I need to give more details?  If so, follow the cut...
  • Pale pasty freckled skin, open to a little sunning but a full on tan would be out of character, looks bumpy in bad lighting, NO idea how to get my skin to look smooth aside from demanding all lights mimic natural sunlight...  :P
  • Get hot red blotches on my right cheek and chest when emotional (would LOVE to find a way to prevent or cover this)
  • Paper thin nails (partly due to dietary restrictions but I'm already upping calcium intake and considering spa treatments)
  • Thin dark blond blah hair that goes flat in minutes no matter what goop I put in it (hoping my stylist can help with this, but seriously considering extensions)
  • Teeth will be whitened, not so worried about that
  • I have already resigned myself to the fact that a makeup artist is necessary, I will NOT try to do my own....
  • never been a big lotion user before but I'm starting now, could use an intensive initial treatment, but no idea about that besides a spa visit...?
  • Weight.  I already have a nutritionist and physical therapist giving me advice on the side, but advice about when to try on dresses etc when you're in the midst of a large scale weight loss I guess?
  • my eyebrows naturally don't match and I've had a lot of really bad waxing experiences...  I don't even know what could be done about them besides a very meticulous plucking and reshaping.
  • oh geez....  and tips on walking in high heels/choosing high heels when they all seem to hurt my feet...  I've broken both feet AND have a chip in the cartilage under one knee cap so I'm really wobbly on heels and step gingerly.

I'm a little overwhelmed by the posts in the tags here and sadly really need a list in front of me to parcel out my beauty related tasks for the next year and a half.  I've never really paid a lot of attention to things like manicures, lotion, styling my hair, etc but I would really like to show my guests a side of me they've never seen.  I really just want to do it for myself, really - because I can and I should take better care to present my outside as I feel inside.

ETA:  WOWIE You are all wonderful!  I'm going to try and construct this into an organized list and add that to the post over the weekend.  <3
