Name and/or LJ userID: Lauren/
haremstressWedding Date: I've got my eyes on late summer 2012, but that's far from being set in stone.
Bride/Groom/Other (please specify): Bride
Age: 24
City/State/Country you live in: Seattle, WA, USA
City/State/Country you're getting married in (if different): Well, somewhere in Washington. I'm from the Olympic Peninsula, for those who know the area, and right now I'm thinking of doing Lake Crescent.
Wedding Colors: Red and probably black, maybe yellow.
Formality: Moderately formal ceremony, informal reception.
Theme (if you have one): I know I want to have a cozy family gathering feel, and lots of red roses, and that's all I got for now. :)
Number of guests: 40-50
How'd you meet your fiance?: We were regulars in a Yahoo! Chatroom, had great chemistry, and since we lived relatively close we decided to meet in person.
How long have you been together?: 7 years next month.
Do you have a personal wedding website?: Not yet.
Have you read the community rules before posting this survey?: Yep
Anything else you'd like to tell us?: I don't know if we're technically engaged yet; there's no ring (see below), and FH is a little mystified that I've caught the wedding planning bug all of a sudden. :P Getting married is something we've long assumed was in our future, though. My older sister's beautiful baby girl was born last week, and I guess it's just gotten me thinking about the next stage of my life.
Now... ring stuff!
I'm thinking of foregoing the engagement ring and just doing wedding bands. I'm not much of a jewelry person, and the ring is fairly low on my priority list (we're on a budget). But on the other hand, some of the engagement rings I'm looking at are just gorgeous (
case in point), and I think I might treasure that more than a simpler band. I don't necessarily want to go the soldering route, both for money and aesthetic reasons. I don't know very much about ring customs, so my question is... is it tacky to have just an engagement ring forever? Is it odd for a woman to wear a wedding band without the engagement ring with it? Obviously we can do whatever we want, but I'm curious to know what the precedent is.
ETA: Thank you to everyone who's responded! I guess there's more variety of customs out there than I realized. :) Will definitely post a pic in the future, whatever I decide on!
