So, I almost made the mistake of posting a question that has been discussed time after time in this community: What should I ask my photographer at an interview?
Well, I looked through the most recent entries with the Photography: Interviews tag, and I have to say the people of this community are really helpful. I've already written my list of questions, and I'm feeling more confident about meeting my potential photographers. Thanks for that already!
I'd like to offer up another word of advice: I live in Hammond, LA which is a pretty small town, but has many photography options. I initially had a list of about five photogs to contact for my wedding. The first person on my list had a wonderful website, beautiful pictures, and a fair price. I mentioned his work to a co-worker, and was quite surprised at the reaction. "NO!" she said adamantly, "No! Don't use him!" WOW! What a reaction! When asked for a reason, she told me that particular photog made the flower girl cry at a recent wedding! His attitude is to get the shot no matter what, and although the adults dealt with the bullying, the child couldn't hand it. So, my recommendation is to 1) Get local opinions! and 2) Make sure your photographer is flexible and good with different members of your party (flower girls, ring bearers, pets, etc).
And I'd like to end this post with a question:
I have arranged interviews with a few photographers and (obviously) I can only choose one. How do you "let someone down" about not using their business? Many of the people I contacted are friendly and do a good job at keeping communication channels open.
Thanks so much for this community's help!
