While I did see that this has been addressed in the past, I'm curious, especially given the economic climate that is plaguing America currently.
For us, because of financial issues, we have a very limited budget. Like $5k limited. Our wedding is in the daytime, with everything wrapping up by 4pm. Is it really that tacky for us to have a cash bar? I understand that the convenience factor is lovely when you attend a wedding to have something completely open, but I've seen scenarios where an open bar would consume the entirety of our budget.
I guess I just don't understand why someone would be judged for a cash bar. If someone can't afford that, they can't. I'd much rather put money towards other things... food, decorations, dress, officiant, a good dj, a photographer, etc.
Then again ours a daytime wedding, so it's probably a bit more acceptable for there not to be an open bar.
I guess that's what it comes down to. I know some people are already going to judge us for a lack of open bar, but does the fact that it's a light appetizers casual wedding during the day (starting at 11:30am) make a difference at all? It's all occurring at a restaurant in the same room, so there isn't going to be a lot of travel involved for our guests. All under one roof.
Ugh, if I could have a open bar, though. I would.
P.S. Our guest list is 63 people, including us and the wedding party.
EDIT: I should note, since this seems to be a touchy topic that while I don't personally think it's tacky and have that as my own opinion, everyone is entitled to their own opinion as well.
