I've decided to keep the origonal first dress I bought, after much consideration of going with a newer/fancier/more expensive one. I did a lot of seaching on the internets and frankly I think I am just too picky, everything I've seen was the wrong cut or the wrong material or the wrong price...and I figure there is certainly something to be said for gut instinct, since I fell in love with this dress from the moment I saw it.
That being said, it is a Vintage Gunne Sax from the Romantic Renaissance Bridal Collection. It is a size 11 in impecable condition (Thier sizes always run small, I am like a size 8 maybe). And I believe it dates to the mid 70's, from what my friend tells me and she is into vintage clothing. (I've never paid much attention to dating but I've always loved the vintage Gunne Sax skirts and casual dresses and had several when I was younger.) From what I can tell, there are no stains rips holes tears, nothing. It is just beautiful. It is in an ivory color and ties in a bow in the back. The sleeves are somewhat transparent as the over material for the dress is thin, and at each cuff it is trimmed with a satin ribbon and lace, and has a pearl button. The bodice and waistline are done in lace and satin ribbon trim, and at the hemline is a length of ribbon and lace circling the gown. I think it will look really nice when complimented by my FH's dress blues Navy uniform.
Pictures under the cut! (Sorry the lighting is so bad but I was using my webcam for this one.)
A total steal from Ebay for $20!
My questions for the community lie in the ways of accessories. Veil or no veil? Because it is a vintage dress, would getting a modern veil be tacky? If so, what length, elbow, finger...? or should I just go with my origonal idea of having a florist make a crown wreath of flowers. If so, which flowers would suit it well? I was considering daisies but am afraid the ivory of the dress and the white on the flower would clash horribly. Either way I plan on having my hair in a simple bun or chignon.
