Is anyone here planning on eloping to have a "Just the 2 of Us" wedding before having an official wedding and reception with all the trimmings?
Originally when my FH and I got engaged we talked about getting married in Las Vegas, and having it be a destination wedding of sorts with just immediate family. Then we'd have a big backyard party when we got back and have it be a very informal reception for everyone else.
My family was VERY much against the Vegas idea because a) they didn't want to go to Vegas and b) they wanted a more traditional affair.
I've always been sort of weird in my life decisions and have gone off the beaten path, but I love my family and really want them to be part of this dealie, so we amended the plans to have a more local wedding. That's cool.
But... I still found myself pining for the Vegas chapel wedding, with Elvis in attendence and everything. So FH and I were looking at airfares last night, and checking to see what room comps he can get at which casinos, and it looks like if we REALLY wanted to do it, we could.
Does eloping beforehand "ruin" the big day?
We're thinking that it will take some of the pressure and nervousness.... neither one of us really like being the center of attention, so knowing that the deed has already officially been done, it may make it easier?
