1. get married on a ship
2. get married in pirate gear
3. get married by a performer in a pirate persona
4. have a pirate fight either as part of the ceremony or reception
5. have a paid troupe entertain with piratey flair during the reception
5. provide piratey accessories and a photo booth for people to creat a unique guestbook experience
6. serve rum
7. don't serve rum and make sure you blame someone as being "the reason the rum is gone..."
8. send out invitations that are themed like treasure maps, or in bottles.
9. go somewhere exotic that has definite piratey roots, like Jamaica or southern FL
10. that's about all i can think of right this second.

...And always ask "Why is the rum gone?", but only if you swagger about slightly drunken looking.

having had that happen at an event, it's really only funny for the first 5 minutes. then it just gets annoying ;)

We're not having a pirate themed wedding, but I sent an IM to Aaron the other day at work (probably while I was doing 16 other things at the same time), asking him what he wanted his boutinere to look like, and I spelled "boutinere" as "boutineer". His response was "YAR! I want it to have a pirate ship on it, and some dubloons!" It made me laugh at the time, but I think maybe you need dubloons.

Also, there was someone who was posting periodically in here an on DIY weddings who was planning what looked like an amazingly cool nautical-themed wedding. Not pirate perse, but again, maybe you can use some of the ideas? I'll try to find it...

For starters they should get married on September 19th. It's a Friday this year, so that's ideal if you're quick planners!

Incidentally some frineds of mine are getting married on this date and didn't realise the significane until one of the groomsmen threatened to hand out tricorn hats to all the attendees along with programmes. ^_^

We didn't have a pirate wedding, but our wedding was on Dia de los Muertos. We did sugar skulls as decorations and as favors:

It was a lot of fun. Adam and I made the skulls. It didn't actually take as long as I thought it would. We made about 90 of them in a total of 3 hours. Then later, we invited two friends over for decorating. That took about 3 more hours, and it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately for me, all of my wedding party was up in Minneapolis.
