October 13th wedding
Over the weekend I attended the wedding of two of my friends from college. There were 8 of us girls who all became friends freshman year in New Orleans and have remained close ever since. We've scattered across the country and now only see each other at weddings, which fortunately we have had every few months. I'm now the next in line with my March wedding.
It was a great wedding, and I think everyone there had a good time.
Things that could have been changed:
The wedding was at 1:30 and the place was still setting up a few minutes before things were supposed to start. They had to continue to add seats as guest arrived.
The ushers weren't clear where the immediate family needed to go and had to keep rearranging people on the front row.
The unity candles were set up right under an air conditioning vent and they came very close to blowing out a few times.
Things that were nice:
The ceremony was very tailored to the couple. It was all about maintaining individual identities within a relationship. The bride is a very big feminist, and it was very fitting. The officiant made reference to the Cypress tree and the Oak tree growing together but not in each other's shadows.
After the bride said her vows, the groom was so choked up his voice squeaked when he tried to speak. Everyone had a good laugh, including him.
The ceremony and reception were in the same place, so no one had to drive.
It was a smaller wedding almost entirely of their families and those of us who all knew each other from college, so everyone knew plenty of people and could entertain themselves while the bride and groom made their rounds.
