It's no secret to most of you that there have been a series of behind the scenes interpersonal conflicts going on between myself and some folks on the mod team, pretty much since I stepped down as a moderator. And you are aware that I have now been asked to step down as a player from Marvel Mansion. That request came as something of a surprise to me, as I was making an effort to address some of the tension, but those efforts were, perhaps, too late.
Still, I can't honestly say I hadn't considered leaving over the last few months - the underlying tension hasn't been conducive to the fun. My resignation is effective immediately. Some final bits of business need to be taken care of, though.
The Thanos plot is regrettably canceled. Though the mod team has said that I could go ahead and run it before I go, but I had too much that was going to spring out of it for future plots to want to run it here. I have suggested to Will that Thanos's 'cover' motivation - the study of reincarnation-based immortality - become his actual motivation for the purposes of resolving the dangling plot threads like the fate of the Phoenix and the M'kraan Crystal. And I'm sure Will can find a little room in Annihilation to assault the moon and get our Inhuman folks their necessary catalysts for change.
Spider-Man - Spider-Man's only unusual status quo items were the return of Harry Osborn, and his recently-resolved notion to try and make the superhero community better and more cooperative with one another.
Hercules - Herc has a couple of plots with Thor coming up, and nothing unusual in his status quo.
Quasar - Quasar has two pairs of spare Quantum Bands, of slightly lesser efficacy than his own, to deputize extra Protectors of the Universe.
Reed Richards - Apart from the official approval of his X-Gene therapy, I don't think Reed had anything coming down the pipeline. The X-Gene Suppression treatment is probably his only unusual status quo item.
Rick Jones, bitch. - Rick's still bonded to the Nega-Bands, which have fallen into the hands of Annihilus.
Thanos - Discussed in the Plot section, but he currently has the M'kraan Crystal's world shunted into a pocket dimension, and he has captured Epoch, the Phoenix, and the Grandmaster.
Jamie Madrox - Jamie's dupes developing independent personalities is something I've been hinting at for a while, but I never got the opportunity to explore. He's the VP of Security at X-Corporation, taking an unusual level of responsibility for him, and one of his dupes boinked Monet, which would have led to some hilarity, I'm sure.
Morph - Morph's adventures will continue in the realm of the Exiles, but I think some changes are coming to
elseworldexiles, and it is currently inactive. I'll still be playing him somewhere, though.
In fact, to be honest, I will be playing all of these characters elsewhere, so if you happen to enjoy my wacky brand of sarcasm, hit me up on AIM and I'll show you where to read the ongoing adventures of my particular Spider-Man. (I feel it would be poor taste to directly link another Marvel RP community here.)
I've gotten to play with most of you, and there are few of the in-character interactions that I failed to enjoy. I'd like to give a little shout out to some folks here who have especially made my day. If you're not on the list, don't take it personally - these are just standouts at the forefront of my brain. In no particular (or possibly alphabetical) order :
Allen - Any man who loves Slapstick is a good guy in my book. I enjoy your Speedball as well.
Amit - I'm a huge fan, Amit. I wish I could nail the ladies like you do. Er, I mean, their voices. ;) Of course, I still get to interact with you and some of the other folks over at
jla_watchtower, so there's relatively little in the way of pangs of loss, here, but you deserve some kudos, and we can always use more Amit.
Andy - The Abbott to my Costello. JJJ vs. Spidey is always gold, especially with you behind the wheel. Fortunately, I'm not losing that, but I wanted to single it out for some praise anyway.
Charly - Sorry I won't get to see more of your Rachel Summers, but I'm glad I got to work with Kate. And no, I don't think she's overpowered. :)
Dylan - I'm very sorry we aren't going to get to have Jamie and Guido tear up the town. You have awesome taste in comics, though, and I hope you'll occasionally hit me up on AIM for conversation, at the very least.
Glitter - Morph will miss Nocturne, you better believe it.
Jo - Never would I have expected to enjoy the adventures of a girl and her dog so much. Temping Lockjaw for you was always a pleasure, ma'am. I still get your Harley and Talia, though, so I suppose that will do. Thank you for stepping into Sue's shoes - I know she's not the most conventionally interesting character, but you play her well.
Manda - I'm a fan of somewhat obscure characters, and it was a lot of fun to see someone pick up Shard, of all people. Good luck with X-Factor.
Marie - I'm sorry the Thing's poker game didn't really get rolling, it would've been fun. Thank you for playing Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew opposite my Reed.
Patrick - You've got M's voice nailed, and I loved her interactions with Mr. Madrox. I hope to work more with you on the DC side, sir.
Sean - You are a demented genius, sir. Your theatrical Mordo, the resurrection of Harry Osborn - I can never read one of your scenes and fail to be entertained. Fortunately, I also still get to work with you.
Stacy - We had a few IC interaction, but I mainly wanted to thank you for your tireless dedication to providing the Marvel world with all the icons they can stand - I still plan to use your stuff as a major source for what I do with these characters. Thank you.
Terry - Thank you for your Slingers performance in the Exiles realm. I also enjoyed working with Phil Urich, too, but you helped me make my Exiles plot what it was.
Vaz - Having Hercules call Rockslide an ignoble whoreson still ranks as one of my top five favorite moments from this game.
Will - If I were as effusive in my praise of you as I'd like to be, Will, this could go on for a while. Let me just say, in brief, that I think you are an excellent person, a fantastic moderator, and a great player. Spider-Man lecturing Nate Grey comes to mind as one of the other top-five moments I've had on this game. You definitely rock.
Well, I don't have anything more to say, I've done the best I could. You can't expect to win 'em all. But, I want to tell you something I've kept to myself through these years. I was in the war myself, medical corps. I was on late duty one night when they brought in a badly wounded pilot from one of the raids. He could barely talk. He looked at me and said, 'The odds were against us up there, but we went in anyway, I'm glad Captain made the right decision.' That pilot's name was George Zip. The last thing he said to me, 'Doc', he said, 'Sometime when the crew is up against it, the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to get out there and give it all they got and win just one for the Zipper'. 'I don't know where I'll be then, Doc', he said, 'but I won't smell too good, that's for sure..'
Excelsior, gang. Stay in touch, please.
