Mad Libs - Plot Synopsis Project

or "Quest for the Magic Silver Bullet" ( I used to love the old shows that had alternate titles that gave away the plot in one sentence)

ceosanna sent me the link to difrancis Mad Libs - Plot Synopsis project where I scoured through the list of authors, some familiar and some, honestly, not (that's to be remedied), to find the some golden nugget of truth to how a synopsis should be constructed. Frankly the books out there are varied and inconsistent as to how to put it together and I was, and still am, extremely frustrated.

Terry Brooks wrote, in "Sometimes the Magic Works":

"We don’t find answers so much in what we already know as in what we think might be."

And in searching through the synopsis...I found there is a clear methodology to it even if the way it's done is varied. There is the beginning, middle and end of the story, needed plot hooks, list of characters (whether peppered into the synopsis or as a separate list) and a wide variety of things I was completely unsure about.  Thank's Sis' for that.

Most that have met me in person know that if it's not close to my chest...I do not lack confidence in doing whatever it is. My personality has been described as explosive and "extremely outgoing".  Hell, at times, I can be considered down right annoying with energy.

When it comes to things I'm proud of...I'm like a father penguin who'll walk thousands of miles awkwardly just to protect the small egg that I believe will grow to a happy dancing penguin.

I know this story is good. How do I know this story is good? I'm so damn paranoid about getting it right to send out.  Reading and researching everywhere that I can to see what/how/why agents read query letters from new authors.   I am not trying to write a book to a tailored audience that I think will make it a world wide best seller.  I'm writing it, mainly, for my wife, my constant reader who is getting tired of "Hey hun...would you read this chapter". As someone who doesn't read "dragon books", as she calls them, but loved the Harry Potter series, she's constant. Letting me know when my main character, who she shares a nick name with, doesn't sound like a girl or if there's plot holes. Or, god forbid, I got overly geeky with my, attempted, peppering of pop culture references.

And at this point, I recognize rambling when I see it. ;)
