Why I'm not an Atheist

Sep 27, 2010 11:02

Usually I love to rag on Christians. Why? Because I grew up in a Christian environment and I'm always surrounded by their crazy rhetoric. I will fully admit it's 90% reactionary.

To be fair, I'm against ALL religion. Religion brings nothing but bad things to the table. Any good that comes from it, can just as easily be done without it. In fact, even the good things are MUCH BETTER without it. (No strings attached! It's grade A, GENUINE GOOD when you remove the ulterior motives all religions attach to their acts of kindness.)

Everyone who reads my blogs knows this is how I am and this is what I believe. I can certainly see how you may infer that I'm an Atheist based on what I say.

But, I never said I outright believe there is no cosmic Higher Power.

Atheists believe there is no God. Well, to that I say, prove it. Usually the retort is, "The burden of proof is on those who claim there is." My my reply to that is "Nice job dodging the question there, buddy."

Neither side likes to admit that NO ONE CAN PROVE THERE IS OR THEIR ISN'T. (At least not until the Zombie Apocalypse, and even then, I'd still probably be skeptical.)

Now, do I agree with 90% of Atheist philosophy? Yep. Rejection of religion and all things supernatural is a fairly solid trait among all Atheists. But I just won't dive off into the Pool of Certainty since the way I see it, there's no water in it and you just end up bumping your head which ends up turning you into a self-assured moron. (Harsh, I know.)

One of the things I like to do is compare God to Santa Claus. It's BASED on something that is/was real, but all the mythology surrounding it is just made up stuff to keep the masses - I mean - little kids, in line throughout the year. (If you're good Johnny, you'll get lots of presents - I mean - go to Heaven! Otherwise, here's the lump of coal to start the fire that will ROAST YOUR ASS IN HELL!) I could go on with about a dozen other God = Santa Claus comparisons (like making a list for Santa is the equivalent of praying to God), but I'll stop here since I'm only trying to illustrate one point. The point being that even though religion may be entirely made up by man, this is no way disproves or proves there is/was a God.

You can "have faith" and wish with all your might, but at the end of the day I just don't know, and neither do you.
