OMG! I just had the BEST moment I've ever had with Tony!!
It became apparent a couple days ago that he didn't know who we were. Diane tried to tell me a few days ago, but I didn't want to believe it. Then I knew it was true. (It's temporary, just a side effect of the meds in his system.) But it hurt like hell. The warm soft look he always gives me wasn't there. Whenever I touched him, he looked apalled and confused.
I was in the waiting room, crying. Diane was trying to console me. I was so angry that he didn't know me. WTF??? I told Diane what I really wanted to do about it, and she told me I didn't have a hair if I didn't do it. So I did, and it WORKED!
I went in his room, started talking to him, and he just stared blankly at me. I got up in his face and said "Do you know who I am yet? Cuz if you don't, I got somethin to say to you." He scrunched his eyebrows at me, confused. I leaned in real close and yelled real loud "Say my name, bitch!!" Then I cracked up. When he heard me laughing, his entire expression changed, he knew who I was, his eyes softened and grew warm, he grinned from ear to ear, and his entire world came right back to him!!
It was awesome!!! My new favorite phrase....SAY MY NAME, BITCH!!!
Tomorrow they are moving Tony to Drake, a 'transition hospital'. They will put him thru all the various therapies he needs...physical, occupational, speech, etc. Barring complications, it should take about a month or so to get him back to...um...normal?
So if you want to visit Tony, he's at the corner of Galbraith & Vine.
