Hetalia 30 Day Challenge - Day 8 & 9

Jul 04, 2011 17:38

Happy birthday, burger boy! 235 years! You don't look a day over 19, strangely enough.

I will actually be celebrating said birthday tonight, at my friend's house. We'll be doing a barbeque. Though I am quite disappointed that there will be a lack of apple pie (typed plie automatically at first, haha) because to me, NOTHING is more American than apple pie!, there certainly will be burgers, lemonade and s'mores. Yummy yum! Said friend is also going to let me pick up Cee Lo Green's entire album via USB so I'm very excited about that too. Haha!

(Cut from =ryounkura's funny little comic, "How to celebrate July 4th".) Go read it!
Funny story about Americanism: I was shopping in Mongkok, justifiably the busiest place in Hong Kong (hence the name - Mong = busy, Kok = corner) with this SAME friend when we came across one of those funny knick-knack stores. What I mean is that they sell a variety of jokey, clever items that sometimes also are practical. This can range from fake penises to birthday cards that look like $5000 dollar bills. It was here when I found my awesome, beautiful, epic....

Sword umbrella. I don't have a photo of it yet, sorry. Will edit this when I do.

You may have seen the katana version, which was also there. However, as the first sword fighting I learned was with an epee, this was far more appropriate for me.

It's a plain black umbrella but with a nice silver basket hilt (nothing big, just enough to taper out into the knuckle guard) and a black and silver striped grip. It's not very useful as an actual sword, obviously - a little too small for even my hand! - but it looks so badass. I loved it the moment I saw it. But I still hesitated because it was late in the day and I'd spent a lot already (not uncommon for a trip to MK). My friend eventually convinced me to not let up such a moment of awesome, though she was incredulous of the fact that she had to. To "support" me in this purchase, she then announced quite firmly:

Miriam: And I will get the one that looks like a gun, because I am American.

Best American statement I have ever heard. And yes, she's republican.

...Onto the challenge!

DAY 8 - A CHARACTER YOU LOOK LIKE THE MOST

By virtue of race and gender, fem!Japan. I am an Asian with short hair. The main difference here would be mine is slightly longer (I'm aiming to curl it again next month) and that my bangs are cut jaggedly to the side.

I actually could get away with saying I resemble my home city, haha!

Yup, those bangs are pretty much mine. And if you saw me 2-3 months ago, that's probably the same length. I just don't have such prominent front/side bang thingies.

DAY 9 - A CHARACTER YOU WOULD BRING HOME TO YOUR PARENTS

Estonia! I'm trying not to repeat characters as much as possible, but Canada and Finland, once again, are good contenders. But I picked Estonia for the sheer decision of Asian parenting. He's smart and an IT guy (just like my dad, actually), as well as being "lucky." Chinese people are huge on luck. Another irrelevant but interesting fact is that we apparently share the same birthday. Cool!
