Chapter Da Foist: Not your every-day-day.

(the direct continutation of Chapter 0: prologue)

He awoke to the clanging of metal on metal. He pushed himself off the cold metal floor, trying to shake the fogginess from his head.
He stood, disorientated but not weak. "What...happened?" Cody wondered aloud, rubbing his eyes to lose the grogginess.
Suddenly his most recent memories flooded back to him, and for a few moments, he was lost in thought.

There he was, walking down the side of the road. He recalled a black limousine pulling up next to him, matching his speed. The powered windows rolled down to reveal a slick businessman, his smile only somewhat shady.
He had offered Cody money, something about an experiment. He knew getting in the car wasn't a good idea, but he remembered he did anyway. He couldn't remember why though. Probably the money.
After that, all he remembered was a sly smile from the man who invited him in, and the surge of pain of something hitting him from his side. He did recall seeing a large bouncer in a seat to his left when he got in...

Now, he was here. But, where was here, he thought.

He viewed his only some-what strange surroundings. He was in some sort of large warehouse, and around him were many large, stacked crates that looked like they might've been made out of some kind of wood.
He tried to take note of what he saw to better familiarize himself with his surroundings. 'Crates, dome ceiling, giant robot, a window with... GIANT robot?!' Cody thought to himself, his concentration still not fully returned.

He had failed to notice that mere several feet in front of him was an enormous robot that seemed to fill the entire room. It stood motionless and unwavering, it's immobile arms thicker then tree trunks.
But Cody could tell, it's lidless eyes were staring right at him.
He had to get out of there, now. He whipped around behind him to look for an exit. Directly behind him were large garage-like doors, and he ran into them trying to force them open. A loud hum notified Cody of the inevitable. He turned slow, horrified as he watched the great feet of the robot come to life and take a massive step towards him. It's great figure could nearly reach him already, Cody knew he was in trouble in just one more step. He reefed the door handle, but it was clearly locked. He pounded on the door and yelled for help, trying much harder to force the door open then yell. The door appeared as if it may have also been chained shut though, and Cody knew he couldn't get through.

Turning to face the giant man of steel, he just barely felt the wind of one of it's arms slamming down towards him in time. He nearly leaped out of the way, running screaming for his life. The un-agile robot missed Cody by a hairs-breadth, but Cody didn't have time to go back and measure it.

With no plan and no escape route, Cody did what any kid in his position would do best: he ran around in circles screaming. The robot swung at him with lethal force, over and over again, but its slow moving arms and inferior targeting kept leaving Cody alive.
Getting tired, Cody spotted a stack of crates nearby and jumped behind them for cover. Whether or not the robot saw him go behind it, he wasn't sure, but all he cared about was catching his breath. Above him, he saw that window again, but it was clear it was not a window to outside. Three people stood inside the room he could see through the glass, the twisted spectators to this game of death. One he recognized as the slick man from the limo, probably the perpetrator. He noticed a some-what cute blonde standing next to him, but the smile she had as she watched him suffer made him lose interest.

"Hey!" he shouted up to them. "You people up there!! Help!!"

The one he had seen before with the greased-back black hair spoke into a microphone that rang throughout the room Cody was in. "Don't worry, it's alright, it's just an experiment." He ended with a smile.

A large wooden crate whizzed by his head, possibly flung from the robot across the room from him.

"Are you sure this is safe!?" Cody yelled up at them, for he was a bit of a slow learner. Another crate smashed through the crates he was hiding behind, narrowly missing him. Cody knew these attacks were too close for comfort, the robot wouldn't miss forever. Spotting the robot reaching for another crate, Cody ran towards the robot, he knew his only chance for victory was to fight.
The giant robot took up a large portion of the room, its hand being bigger then Cody's whole body, so reaching it didn't take long for a nimble teen like himself. A new sense of bravery, with images of triumph and news articles with his face on it, spurned him to swing on the robots fist that still grasped a crate.
However, at the last second, the realization that it was made out of metal sunk in, and he pulled his punch at the last second. It didn't help him much though, he still banged his fist against the solid steel, and he recoiled from the pain.
As Cody rolled to the floor he could see the window behind him, and noticed that the man who he didn't recognized seemed to scoff and hide his face in his hands. The slicked one spoke into the microphone again "T-1!" He seemed to be addressing the robot. "What's wrong with you, worthless piece of junk! He's hurt himself more then you have!" A new sense of ferocity and anger was clear in the man's voice, something he hadn't thought the man capable of before. The man practically grew a few inches taller in Cody's mind.

A sudden crash made Cody even jumpier then he was a moment ago, still scrambling to his feet from the shock of nearly breaking his hand. Smoke blew in from his left, and from it some seemingly unearthly figure leaped out. It slammed into the robot, it's blow literally sending the robot off its feet and flying over Cody's head. The robot soared towards the glass window, the three in lab coats scurrying like ants at it's approach. The bang from its collision was ear-ringing, and the constant fizzing and popping that followed was no reprieve.

Cody turned back to see his apparent rescuer, and was somewhat shocked to see just a man. The way the man stood seemed to exude strength, and he seemed to have a permanent grimace, one that was currently directed at the busted machinery.
"Let's go." He said to Cody firmly, without fear or doubt.

Cody wasn't smart enough to know it, but this man far outclassed him, nearly the opposite of what Cody was.
"Wait a second, who are you?" Cody said, overly suspicious after this incident.

"That can wait, let's go." He grabbed Cody's arm to lift him from the rubble of the odd unrecognizable debris that had once been inside the broken crates strewn about the room. He pulled him by the arm through the hole he had created in the wall, and into the fresh air beyond. Cody wondered about how he made the hole, but from its medium-large size and the way the wall had fallen inwards Cody thought it musta been some kind of explosive.

"Now just wait a minute!" Cody said, trying to wrench his arm from the mystery man's grip.

Out of respect, he let go.

"Are you Cody Fischer?" The man said, apparently changing his mind about the whole 'lets talk later' attitude.

"Wha- how did you know my name?" Cody said, too dumb-stricken to notice he just told the man who he was.

"My name is Dyo Hazuki. I've been sent here to protect you." He said calmly.

"But- why would anyone want to hurt me? Who would-" Cody had so many questions he was tripping over his own words without a clue what to ask.

"Look, none of thats important right now. We need to go somewhere safe. Now." Dyo grabbed the back of Cody's shirt only semi-firmly to lead him on, but as Cody struggled he tightened his grip.

"What if I don't want to go with you? Or i don't trust you?" Cody questioned.

"You don't have a choice." Dyo said, and he threw Cody over his shoulder.

The strength that the weird looking asian guy used to pick him up scared Cody, and with all the running from the robot and the smashing and exploding and argueing all still fresh in his mind, the pressure got to him.

He fainted.

Cody awoke for the second time that day in an unfamiliar room. This time however, his resting place was not a floor, but a cushioned couch, albeit and old and ripped one. The fuzzy blue blanket rubbed against his chin, somewhat uncomfortably, but he had other things to worry about still, like where he was.
The room he was in appeared nearly empty, like a bachelor that barely recently moved in. A living room he thought it was, with several doors leading to other rooms. Alarmed, Cody suddenly checked under his blankets, worried the man had taken off his clothes while he was unconscious, something he had seen done before in a lot of movies.
Although he found himself still in the same clothes covered with the dust of the warehouse, his worry still haunted him.

He jumped up out of his makeshift bed, and looked around for his rescuer.. or kidnapper, he couldn't decide.
As he reached the nearest doorway, he was surprised to see Dyo's face staring back at him from the doorway. Shocked, he fell backwards.

"About time you woke up." Dyo stated, with more disgust then impatience.

"I-I..I wasn't asleep!" Cody yelled back at him, regaining his feet.

"I think not. I had to carry you the whole way here, and you still didn't wake."

"Let me go! I want outta here!" Cody yelled.

"Where are you going to go?" He asked simply.

"Well, home of course! I mean - c'mon.. where else?" Cody asked, thinking the question stupid.

Dyo shook his head, "You think your safe there? That's not even what I meant kid.." He turned to walk away.

"I'm not going to stay with you!" Cody yelled back at him, grabbing Dyo's arm to turn Dyo to face him.

"What's your problem with me?" He asked somewhat curiously.

"Your a-.. a stranger! A strange man that kidnapped me! You might... You might.." He found his sentence awkward to finish, not wanting to give him any ideas.

mistaking Cody's meaning, Dyo responded, "If I wanted to kill you I would've done it already."

"You might try to butt-hump me!!" Cody blurted out.

Dyo just glared at him. Dyo turned away and headed for another room.

Giving up an arguement he probably couldn't win, Cody headed in after him.

"So..um, uh, you there.." Cody started, not able to pick up names from other languages very quickly, like many Americans. "If your really on my side, well..." Cody wasn't sure what exactly he was going to ask, or how to ask it.

Dyo stood there eating a bowl of cereal very rigidly, yet still leaning against a table as if relaxed, the only furniture in the room. He stared at Cody blankly, apparently either unmoved or uncaring at whatever he said.

"What I mean is, how do I know you can trust you?" Cody got out.

"I saved you didn't I." Dyo said, putting down his bowl. "Here." He picked up a backpack on the table and tossed it to Cody, who reluctantly caught it.

"What is it?" Cody asked.

"What, you don't use backpacks in America?" Dyo asked, although Cody was unsure of whether it was a joke or a serious question.

"I know that!" Cody said, trying to assert his intelligence. "What's in it?"

"Food." He walked off into another room again, apparently not worrying about what Cody might do while he wasn't there.

Cody followed after him again, unsure as to whether to bring the bag. Deigning it just added weight, he left it behind. "So where are we?"

"Somewhere safe." Dyo responded.

"Okay..." Cody said, deciding he'd get better luck figuring out for himself then asking his strange companion. He wandered a few of the rooms, spotting a bedrooom, the room he started in, and a door, possibly to another room. Hoping to himself that it was the exit, although he wasn't sure whether he really wanted to leave, he opened it.
He didn't see what he had expected though, and he nearly leapt back in shock.
As Cody stared through the doorway, however, the shock on his face faded, replaced by some sort of mad glee.
The backpack he gave him in hand, Dyo approached next to Cody. Staring through the door way Dyo said, "Thats never happened before..."

To be Continued

Next time on, The Recruiters: What's through that door!? What could give Cody mad glee?! Who is this mysterious Dyo fellow, and is he here to help or harm our hero?? Who sent him to protect Cody, and possibly less importantly, why!? Who were the evil doers that captured Cody, and why did they keep calling it an experiment?? What the heck is going on?!
All these questions and more, MIGHT be answered in the next EXCITING episode of THE RECRUIT GAME!! (also known as the recruiters.)

(Your opinion on these matters is appreciated.)

Authors notes: 1: Cody (ko-dee)

Cody isn't exactly the brightest bulb in the bunch, but one can argue he's not an idiot either. Alot of people might think he seems to be acting rather stupid in most of these situations, but it may however be actually more realistic then what you see in most shows and books, due to the shock and gravity of these situations happening to a perfectly normal person. Secondly about Cody, it was a real person roleplaying the whole time, and in these first few chapters he wasn't that good at roleplaying. I edited out all the really bad parts and took a few liberties with some "thinking" done by cody and conversations to make the book more interesting of course though.

2: Dyo Hazuki. (pronounced Dee-o, but one syllable. when said correctly sounds somewhat like Dee-yo)

Based closely on the character from the Dreamcast videogame Shenmue (and xbox sequel Shenmue II), Ryo Hazuki, he is also quite a bit different. In the game you can of course choose your own path, thus somewhat forming a bit of what the personality of the main character is like. Dyo is basically like a much tougher, rough, cool version of Ryo.
More will be revealed about what kind of person Dyo is the more the story goes on.

3: More characters of course will be introduced in the next (or next after that) chapter. This was basically the biggest dry spell in the story when it comes to seeing cool characters you have heard of.

4: if you read and review im more likely to update! one reason i dont update is because noone actually reads it as far as i know if you dont leave a review (even "i read it i want more" works.)
