As Clio said, though, I don't yet see what the advantage in killing Dumbledore was. If he was indeed dying already, I suppose I can see that he wanted Snape to finish him off, but the fact that he kept saying he needed Snape implied to me that they had discussed it before. What were the advantages then, if that's the case? So Snape could remain a spy? WHO IS HE GOING TO BE REPORTING TO?
I think that Dumbledore knew that Snape would have to die if he didn't kill him (due to the terms of the Vow--remember he not only Vowed to protect Draco, but also to do the job Draco was supposed to do if he failed), and that he believed that Snape's role at this point was more important to Harry's ultimate success than his. I think he sacrificed himself to keep Snape alive, and I think it is possible that his role will ultimately be more than just "spy".
No, I am sure it had something to do with the vow, but I still really fail to see how Snape is more important than Dumbledore. I am sure that this will make sense later, but for now I'm like, WHO CARES ABOUT SNAPE'S LIFE!!
I also think he may have wanted Snape to kill him to avoid having Draco do it. I don't think Draco could have managed it a few minutes earlier, but once he had all those Death Eaters in the room, pressuring him, it's possible he might have. I think Dumbledore would not have wanted a 16-year-old child to be a killer.
I do agree that Dumbledore wouldn't have wanted Draco to kill him, but I don't think that's the entire reasoning as I've seen other people saying, or that Dumbledore died to spare Draco. Not that I don't agree that Dumbledore would do either of these things, just that they can't be the entire reason. It's a little too "The entire thing was for Draco! DRACO! *throws confetti*" for me. I would so love to have a second version of this book come out in Snape's POV.
I don't think it's the whole reason, either. I think that he thinks that Snape is vital to the conclusion of all this in ways that we aren't privy to yet. Which I know is what you think too. You're just more upset about not knowing than I am. :)
Oh, I'm not really. I was just pondering it. The only Snape thing I'm really upset about is the fact that I'm sure he's not really evil, only because I think it would be so cool.
e believed that Snape's role at this point was more important to Harry's ultimate success than his
I dissagree. I think that perhaps avoiding the title of "murderer" for Draco was a very small reason for it. I do not think that it was so Snape could remain a spy; who would he report back to, as she said? And I've never seen any members of the Order feel comfortable with Snape. I will have to go back and reread the reactions of the Order when they found out Snape was the killer, but I think it is deeper than this. I love Snapes character, and I dissagree with weatherby when they say it would be obvious. Snape being evil was always the obvious solution for me.. Just because Harry's always believed that. I'm hoping that this isn't true.
As for the inferi!Potter theory... It'd be really hard to see Lily and James as an inferi. I think that would just be too hard on Harry, and I don't see it. Interesting theories, though. I just loved reading the notes you took. I wish I could gather my thoughts as well.
Well, I don't think the Potters will actually turn out to be Inferi. It's just something I feared happening, as it's something I'd find particularly ghoulish and horrific.
I already think that if she's taking the obvious routes, Harry will die. I don't think he's a horcrux, because.. Why would vold. be trying to kill him, you know? I suppose they will both die. It would break my heart, but for some reason I just see it coming.
Yeah, I've always found that to be a big problem in the Harry-as-horcrux theory. Voldemort tried to kill Harry as recently as last year, so this makes little sense. Dumbledore also mentions that he's suspected Nagini of being a horcrux, as the snake is so oddly responsive and attached to Voldemort, saying that putting a bit of your soul into a living creature would make them somewhat attached to you. (Or something of that sort. I can't remember.) So, while I feel that Harry being a horcrux would be pretty neat, dramatically speaking, it doesn't work out for me in theory at this point. Of course, it could still happen in canon with explanations I haven't considered.
Nagini being a horcrux is very very possible. I believe I already know some of them.
For example. I know where the locket is. I'm sure you've probably already thought of this, but.
Remember when they were cleaning out the Grimwald place, in the fifth book? Among the things mentioned was a locket. Of course, RAB is Sirius' brother.. Regulus A. Black. Now, I've only read the book once. But, remember when somebody (?) was caught by Harry with stolen things from the Grimwald place, that that said someone was pwning off? I do believe that the locket was in that bunch.. or why mention it. You know?
I'm not sure if that stream of ideas were coherent enough. I really have to reread.

Well, I suppose she could surprise us. But I'm pretty sure, too.
