As it turns out, this RRoD is not a real one. The console is fine if I remove the Digital Audio. Guess I'm stuck with analog until they fix it. Though, at least it's not toast like I thought it was!
For anyone who is looking for the symptoms, after switching to Digital Audio (optical), the video would spontaneously corrupt, then hang the whole box.
