Hi all. I'm afraid I've been rather absent-minded lately. I just got an email which has sparked some brain activity, so I have 2 things I'd like to talk about.
Short thing first. I posted about this in
itinerant_craft earlier this evening (er, last night?) Essentially, I was contacted by the chair of Prophecy's Art and Gallery committee because they're interested in setting up a crafting element in the informal programming. Specifically, a session where folks go and make things they get to take away with them. Why does this concern us? They're looking for volunteers to man the tables of crafts. They're looking for folks with nifty craft ideas (we've certainly got them!) who would like to show others how it's done. If you're interested in volunteering, please check out
my post over in
itinerant_craft. There's more info there and a contact email. And if you have anything you'd like to discuss about it, please post it there instead of here, as I'd like to keep it all in one place for now.
Now for the long-winded other thing. I've finally gotten around to typing up the pattern I will be including in my Prophecy 2007 beginner knitting workshop. That's assuming my workshop is accepted, of course. I think having a beginning knitting pattern is a good thing to have in my back pocket anyway, so this is a pattern I'll have available for purchase as well ($4, not a lot). So, of course, I'm looking for folks to test out the pattern. If it were just the knitting, I wouldn't worry about it, I'd whip up the smallest size (the only one I'm worried about in terms of dimensions) and leave it at that. However, the pattern is full of notes intended to help a beginning knitter learn to navigate a pattern. Granted, it's a very simple pattern so the notes aren't as helpful as they could be. Still, I've attempted to make it useful.
What I'm looking for are test knitters to try out the sizes (especially the child size), catch errata and give me recommendations about making it more beginner friendly. All I can offer in return is my sincere thanks and the pattern.
These are the two hats in the pattern (yep, it's actually a 2-pattern pattern). Sadly, not in house colors as I didn't happen to have any yarn in the right shades when I designed 'em. They require worsted weight yarn, 4.75st/in (I used US#7 needles). The largest size of the toque takes almost exactly 100g of yarn (50/50 each color), while the largest size of the beanie is closer to 75g (50g MC and 25g CC).
The sizes are child (fits 17-19.5"); small (fits 19-21.5"); medium (fits 21-23.5") and large (fits 23-25.5"). The medium and large can be made with just a 16" circular needle and something else to help with the 3-needle bind-off, but the child and small sizes would need dpns or two circulars due to the small circumference. Basically, I designed the hats so they wouldn't require dpns, but then I decided to increase the sizing options which then necessitated dpns. *facepalm*
So, if anyone is interested, please comment or email me djinnj@ gmail.com. The draft is an 84k pdf. *kowtows*
