Update on the Motorcycle incident from my last entry.

Well, the kid was admitted to my hospital. I won't re-describe the accident I saw--you'll have to read the previous entry if you're interested. ;)

So. Two people were treated and released at the ER of the hospital where I work. The kid I helped was admitted overnight and released the next day. One of the people life-flighted to the larger town clipped a Semi when he lost control of his bike and went under it and was run-over by the rear set of wheels--I didn't know that before. He is paralyzed from the waist down. One other person is still comatose, unsure of their condition, I think that is the only female who was involved--and the paramedics said she had bones poking through the skin all over the place.

*shudder*

So, the idiot kid I helped? His big concern as he was leaving the hospital was his friends, right, and how badly hurt they'd gotten because of how stupid they were behaving, yes???

No.

His big concern was what kind of bike he was going to get with the insurance money to replace the one he totaled. And his parents were *GENTLY* teasing him, "Now dear, this is your second wrecked motorcycle in two months, maybe you shouldn't get another one...."

GAH!!

Some people just shouldn't breed.

*shakes head in disgust*

I am SOOOOOOO very glad that I was not assigned to this kid, because I would have got my arse fired for sure.

My hospital is currently going through a rash of firing people for no reason, while keeping the idiots who ought not be doing patient care.

Scenario #1:

Nurse Aide Jane Doe says to Nurse Aide Mary Sue, "Hey, did you hear that John Smith died? It's in the newspaper today. He was one of my favorite patients. You took care of him, didn't you?"

Mary Sue immediately runs to Bitch Boss who immediately suspends Nurse Aide Jane Doe for violation of HIPPA regulations--when the information was PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE NEWSPAPER!!

Jane Doe has worked at the facility for over 20 years and is one of the *best* workers the hospital has.

Scenario #2:

R.N. Tammy Moron receives an order to d/c IV fluids, but to leave Heparin drip running per protocol. Our hospital has a specific protocol based on lab results to titrate the heparin. Tammy Moron D/c's the IV fluids--and runs the Heparin at the rate that the IV fluids were running--75 cc/hour. (protocol would have had it at 18 cc/hour =900 units per hour.)

Do we fire Tammy Moron? No. Do we reprimand Tammy Moron? No. Do we write up Tammy Moron? No.

Ridiculous!

Somebody has a seriously FUBAR sense of perspective here.

But at least we know the 21 year old idiot on the motorcycle is going to get a new bike out of the deal, and f*** his friends who will never walk again or may even still die from their injuries.

Gotta love this screwed up planet, eh?
