Went to the big study abroad orientation today, and I'm so worked up about it that I have begun to pack already. Going from what I've been able to pick up from all of the orientations, here are my ground rules for clothing:
- Muted colors. Earth tones, black, or white. Occasionally red but not too much.
- Button-down shirts only. Small fitted t-shirts for undershirts.
- Skirts below the knees only!
- T-shirts with writing on them are "WRITE" OUT
I'm trying to take how conservatively I already dress (not always, but much of the time) and ramp it up a notch, for the least amount of unwanted attention from thieves and male creeps. Also so as not to get any dirty looks 'cause going outside in a t-shirt and sweatpants is like going outside naked over there.
It's just too exciting...and it's going to be WAY too easy to go crazy and overpack! I'm trying to speak to myself rationally here and not take too much. My goal is to get everything in my big suitcase and then have a smaller suitcase as a carry on. The local travel store has a duffel bag that rolls up to the size of a loaf of bread -- I think I'm going to buy it so as to have something to carry my souvenirs back in. Also going to invest in some of those neato compression bags that vacuum-pack your clothes and shrink them by about 90%.
AND I have to start working on my photo album that I'm going to take to show people in Spain my home and my family. Jeez, it's just so exciting!
