Mandy and I went to Red Lobster today because we got a gift card a while back and were too lazy to make our own food. There was about a twenty minute wait, so we were sitting on a bench by the tank of lobsters (which is a little depressing. Sorry, soon-to-be-dead lobster.) A little girl and her brother came up to look at the lobsters and this conversation happened:
Boy (to me): What's that?
Me: A lobster.
Boy and girl both stare and laugh and count them.
Girl: I have a shirt! Want to see my shirt?
Me and Mandy: Okay.
Girl unbuttons her coat, but holds it closed so she can dramatically pull it open.
Girl: See!
Me and Mandy: That's a very nice shirt!
It's a red polo with a white logo on the corner for a school.
Girl: It's my school shirt!
Me: It's very nice!
Girl: Want to see my shoes?!
She points at her shoes. They're red and white and match. She has the biggest grin through all of this.
Our beeper thing goes off to let us know a table is open, so we stand up and I grab my crutches. There's a big crowd so it takes a while to get through.
Girl: Why are you walking like that?
Me: Because I have to.
I'm trying so hard not to laugh.
Girl: Because you have one leg?
Me: Yup!
She looks SUPER proud of herself for figuring this out.
Me: We have to go now. Bye!
....Yeah, this made my entire life. She had the biggest smile, and she was so adorable and clearly just started first grade or something, so having a uniform was the awesomest thing ever. And every time I think about her saying "Because you have one leg?" I start laughing again. Greatest kid EVER.
