Monica Goodling serves as the Justice Department's liaison to the White House and counselor to the attorney general. She is invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refusing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about the firing of eight federal prosecutors. This rises political and legal stakes which surrounds the removal of federal prosecutors. In the House on March 26, the attorney general had the power to appoint interim U.S. attorneys taken away indefinitely. Monica has taken leave of her position. “The possible reasons behind the firings include decisions on whether to prosecute drug smugglers, immigration violators and Republican politicians.” I believe that Monica should reveal her reasons to why she assisted in firing the prosecutors, and then if she should be punished, have the proper punishment put on her by the court.
