Trick or Treat....

Last night was Aftan's first Halloween.  We took her over to Steve's parent's house dressed up like a pony.  She was such a ham and everyone loved her.  There was a little girl out there trick or treating and she was 1 1/2 years old.  Just two months older than Aftan will be next Halloween so maybe next year she will actually be able to walk around and collect candy in her pumpkin.  But she liked to sit outside (it was really nice out) and see all the kids in their costumes and have all the adults make all over her.

Anyway, in other news we are trying to help her sleep without being swaddled.  She has always been swaddled because she sleeps better that way.  Plus, when she was just a newborn her hands were all herky jerky.  So now since she can roll over and we want to have her be able to use her hands to pull herself up if she needs to we are taking one arm out of the swaddle at a time.  So now she sleeps with one arm out and one arm in.  She has been sleeping just the same with the arm out so we are getting ready to release the other.  Actually, today she fell asleep in the Boppy while nursing so I just put her in her crib without the swaddle at all and without white noise.  I just heard her fussing a bit but now she is quiet.  I am going to run and go check on her.  Well, she was awake but just in there playing with her feet.  I don't think it's her arms that need to be swaddled, I think she just needs something wrapped tight around her chest.  Oh well...she won't go off to college still sleeping in a swaddle.  She's on her playmat now.  It's so cute because when I am carrying her now if I have something in my other hand that is easy for her to grasp and not heavy, I can get her to hold it.  Like just now when I went to get her I had her rattle in my other hand.  She heard it and was reaching for it so I handed it to her and she held it as I carried her in here.  It is very cute.  She's a big girl.
