Iron Man 3

Saw it last night - because today is my day off, so I couldn't not (originally planned to borrow ma's car and go alone - but parents decided they wanted to see it too - so late night showing).

The cinema is nowhere near as busy as it used to be. Opening day and their were a good lot of empty seats. Tis weird.

And thoughts - behind the cut - because spoilers

I liked it. It was better than Iron Man 2 (which I only re-watch for Natasha, Coulson and the Bird..). It wasn't as good as Iron Man.

Also - what does it say about me that my main emotional attachment in the Iron Man films is the bots? (DUMMY, YOU AND BUTTERFINGERS = own my soul) - ma gave me odd looks due to bot related squealing.

The story was good - it had a good mix of humour and dark - Ben Kingsley was amazing. It was gripping and it kept my interest and there was little girl!fail. I loved all the little back references.

I do however spent the second half of the film wondering why the hell Tony didn't call anyone for help. If this was set pre-avengers I would not have been thinking that (or if there had been something between to suggest the others wouldn't help - or comments suggesting reasons that they would not help). That said - I loved the panic attacks, as a character thing and as a 'yes stark is human and has trauma reactions that he hates and avoids and tries to pretend not to have, despite having mapped what sets them off'

The thing is - it all, kinda just got wrapped up with a bow at the end. Pepper gets fixed, off screen, because Tony is that awesome that he can instantly fix something that Mia spent years trying and failing to do. It was....too neat? An anti-climax?

There is some amount of girl!fail in it. Am not surprised, but grrrrr. (Yes Pepper gets to have hero bit - but not when it would have helped more - and.....yeah)

It just - doesn't quite sit right with me. (and yes I am baffled by loss of the chest piece...I have not read enough of the comics to know if it happens there. I just have a level of 'if it was that easy, why not before?!?')

But enjoyed - and Thor 2 later this year and Star Trek in two weeks (which also comes out on my day off *flails*)

Now - I want some central girl super hero films now. Or non-white super hero focused films.

We have - Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Wolverine and Magneto - can we have some Mystique, Black Panther, Black Widow stuffs now? Seriously. There needs to be some girl superhero focused films that are in the league of Iron Man and Captain America.

film, iron man, marvel, avengers
