Just another little light in the dark.

Been reading a bit lately.
Robert Rankin: still one of the finest exponents of comic language. East of Ealing very funny.

The Rebel Sell: genius work on culture, commodification and marketing of alternatives. Everyone should read it.

What they don't teach you at Harvard Business School: more management BS, this one's spin is that it 'tells it like it is', but as with all of these it's full of common sense advice such as 'be organised', 'do what you said you would'.

Big Fish: brilliant mythic quality, but in fact a fair bit thinner than the film adaptation of the same name.

Lanzarote: Another slice of the Houllebecq world, but I'm not sure I really got the point in between the meaningless sex and the alienation.

What Went Wrong: a rather light romp through the history of the relationship between Islam and the western world. I should have been on my guard from the moment I read the words 'New York Times bestseller'. Doesn't really engage in why islam moved into a period of extended conservatism, or why certian ideologies or cultures gained a hold in the occident, but failed to in the Ottoman empire. Frankly, I think anyone who's reading this could have done far better.

Deep Simplicity: lovely treatment of chaos and complexity theory, extends the stuff GLeick outlined in Chaos.

Tiny Lies: collection of short stories, although the themes are pretty consistent which makes it a better read I reckon.
