He wasn't on the Garden State Soundtrack. I mean, I supposed Zach Braff's friendship might have given him a boost to connections, but he was managing just fine on his own.
I'm not worried about the quality of his music changing so much as him being forced to adjust his artistic vision to fit to radio play formats. I'm all for people finding out about him, and the radio is one way for that to happen. And to be fair, his new album is naturally produced much slicker than his EP. Nevertheless, I'd rather that he not be glitzed up and smoothed over simply to add to mass appeal. He can do that on his own strengths.
Plus, I'm just kind of jealous and worried that he'll get all huge and shit before I get a chance to see him somewhere small-ish. I've always been really envious of people who could see him and the rest of the LA scene at the Hotel Cafe. The way it's been described to me sounds really small, cozy and intimate, which suits his sound and would just be a great concert-going experience. There's something to be said with seeing people in that setting vs. a stadium or even a club show. And you know that with Dylan you're not getting anything else.
And he'd previously said he was likely going to stay unsigned, up to a month before the Columbia deal went down, so you know. I'm remaining wary of what's happening.
