So I'm watching Hulu and I keep seeing this commercial where a guy gets stuck in a crowded elevator and the Hall's makes it better.

Why doesn't this jerk move while other people are getting on. The first guy is a pizza delivery guy. The man's at work AND he's holding something. Don't just stand in the middle of the elevator... make some damn room!

Sadly I think it's a way of people's selfish thinking. I see this at the airport all the time. People will stop in the middle of the terminal to check for their flight, not caring that other people are trying to get around them. Worse is when there's that person (usually first class people) who spend several moments situating themselves in their row and taking things in and out of their bags while blocking the aisle. And then we're the assholes when we tell them to step into the row so others may pass. This is one reason why flights can get delayed.
The Army had a term, "situational awareness" that I think people should apply when in public. Most don't. Most just don't seem to care. It's all about them.

Obviously you hit a nerve, because I wrote a lot about this subject.

I've started just walking over and through people that stop in the middle of walkways and doorways. It may be rude, but no more rude than some asshole standing in everyone's way.

It's a little bit of a hot-button issue for me too... I think that kids should be required to take a "Situational Awareness" course in school at some point - maybe Jr. High - to teach them to step out of the way when stopping, and pay attention to their surroundings in general.
