A bit of backstory
Mello had just broken up with Misa. He'd broken up with her for two reasons; one, Misa was cheating on him with Sayu, and two, he'd just realized he was madly in love with his best friend Matt.
" Mello, baby, please don't leave me! I love you so much! I don't even really like her!" Misa begged as Mello threw everything of Misa's, which wasn't alot, out into the street.
"Screw that shit, I'm not going to date someone who cheats,"Mello ground his teeth as he chucked a suitcase of Misa's clothes.
Mello knew he wasn't going to tell her the other reason for breaking up. Mello had a heart, and he cared for the girl alot; so telling her that he realized he was gay while dating her would hurt her. It's unfair to tell someone that they were your 'turner'.
"Mel! C'mon, lets just have some chocolate from the freezer, and make up, okay?" Misa was still pleading as he grabbed the necklace around his neck-- which was silver, spelling out 'MeMi', which was their celebrity combo name-- and chucked it out the window.
As the necklace went sailing out the window, Mello said," Get out. You aren't welcome here anymore, Misa Amane."
Misa's eyes went very wide. No one, not even the strictest of people, said her full name. It was either Misa-Misa, Misa-chan, or just Misa. Her eyes welled up with tears,"Fine! If you want to break up, we will! But in a couple days, you'll be crawling back to me on your knees.:"
And as Mello pushed her out of his apartment, he said," Don't hold your breath, Amane." And he slammed the door.
Mello collapsed onto the black leather couch in his living room. The phone rang, breaking the almost peacful silence.
Mello stood up, and walked into the kitchen where the phone base was. He pressed the speaker button,"Hello?"
"Hey, It's Matt." The voice on the other line answered.
"Hey," Mello sighed, what are the odds that one door closes and the other one opens?
"Can I come over?" Matt asked.
"Yeah, you can." Mello said, nodding even though he won't see it.
"I'm here." Matt said, as the buzzing of the doorbell rang.
"Okay." Mello said, hanging up and pressing the button that opened the door.
A few minutes later, Matt is knocking at the door. Mello hops down from the counter he was sitting on, his thinking place. He'd been thinking of whether or not to tell Matt about his feelings.
He opened the door, finding Matt there," Hey, Matty."
"Yo," Matt nodded, walking into the apartment.
"I broke up with her. She was cheating on me with Yagami." Mello shook his head, closing the door.
"Light? Doesn't he have commitment problems, or some shit?" Mat lit up a smoke.
"No, she cheated on me with Sayu, actually." Mello grabbed a beer from the refrigerator, and hopped up onto the counter.
"Damn. Dude, I'm really sorry. I came here to tell you something, but I guess right now isn't the best time.." Matt trailed off.
Mello's eyes went wide," Actually, just tell me, i need to get my mind off of things."
"Well, I came to tell you that... I'm gay, Mello." Matt blushed.
"E-Excuse me? What?" Mello started to choke on his beer.
"And I know this because... Because I... I think I love you, Mello." Matt's blush darkened.
Mello hopped down from his perch on the counter, and stood infront of the other man.
"Actually... I do too." Mello put his hand oh Matt's chin, stood on the tips of his toes, and kissed him softly.
