So how would you define a friendship?

Friendships or allies...it's just someone that is reliable and you can depend on.

What if someone who's your friend and ally helped you a great deal, and doesn't want anything in return?

Doesn't that make you less dependable?

Perhaps it's their duty to help others without asking anything in return.
