brdskllwarriorCHARACTER NAME: The Meta/Agent Maine
FANDOM: Red Vs. Blue
CANON: Reconstruction: end of Chapter 8, right before The Meta acquires Delta.
WHAT THEY LOST: His firearm will only fire blanks or duds in his hands, and any other weapon he's able to acquire will immediately jam up. He can still use bladed weapons, like the bayonet end of his Brute Shot, but won't be as effective.
PERSONALITY: The Meta was a Freelancer at one time, Agent Maine. Somewhere, somehow, he went rogue and started killing Freelancers for their armor enhancements and Artificial Intelligence units. The thing is, the only other Freelancer that had more than one AI (Agent Carolina) ended up going insane and died; Agent Maine certainly seems to have a few screws loose from the experience as well.
He's become obsessed with collecting as many of the AI units as he possibly can, any way he can. He will not only kill any Freelancer to get the armor enhancements and AI's, but anything standing in the way. He's shrewd, calculating, and intelligent, using anything from jeeps to audio manipulation to get the results he wants. He will, however, 'go for the sure thing' if presented with a choice (such as how South Dakota gave him the option of chasing her and maybe getting Delta but definitely losing Washington's armor enhancement, or going for Wash and having another chance at South and Delta at a later date). He doesn't show mercy, sympathy, or empathy. He is cold and ruthless, but only in the direct line of his goal; as long as you leave him alone and stay out of his way, you're probably safe.
Currently, he has six AIs (Gamma, Omega, Sigma, Tau, Xi, and Lambda). The only certain aspects are Gamma (from Wyoming, aspect; deceit, enhancement; temporal manipulation), Omega (from Tex; aspect; rage, enhancement; invisibility), and Sigma (assigned Freelancer unknown, aspect; creativity, enhancement; unknown). Some of his other strengths, whether or not connected to an AI, are speed, strength, and the ability to manipulate audio messages.
The AIs are the main decision makers. When he sees the Reds and Blues leaving Washington at the Freelancer base, he waits for the AIs to give him instruction before acting. Even though this is a later canon point than when I will be bringing him in, I believe the same is true with what AIs he has at the time.
The AIs do not generally interact with anyone besides Agent Maine. They do greet Delta when he is taken, and later inquire about the Alpha from The Director, but for the most part stick to communicating with their host. As most of the actual aspects and identities of the AIs Maine has are unknown, I will only be representing Omega (rage) and Gamma (deceit), and do not intend to do so frequently. Also, since The Meta is in possession of multiple AIs which have a tendency to all speak at once, it is most likely that neither Omega or Gamma will be able to communicate coherently.
Omega (also known as O'Malley) was originally Tex's AI, and although she was always pretty brutal on her own, he definitely ramped it up. This was also seen when he took over Caboose, and it's implied that Caboose was given his extreme strength and brutality in exchange for some intelligence. In Meta, who possesses his myriad of armor enhancements and is personally quite a bit stronger and faster than the others, Omega has made him a force to be reckoned with. Omega is marked by his exceedingly graphic and morbid sense of destruction, and manic laugh.
Gamma (also known as Gary) belonged to Wyoming, and has spent his time in a computer and as a tank, besides his trips with Wyoming and Meta. Being deceit, he was able to convince Church that he was the computer, and that one thousand years had passed, when in fact it was only a short amount of time that had been looped. Gamma is marked by his distinct manner of speech and constant use of the derogatory term for humans; 'Shisno'.
In Paradisa, Meta would be obsessed with other residents who have/are AIs or have advanced technology. He would not stop attempting to add to his collection just because he unexpectedly found himself in a foreign land.
A Note About Some Blank Spots in Canon:
Right now my greatest mystery in Red vs. Blue is how Agent Maine became The Meta in the first place. Fortunately, his current mental state makes it rather easy to roleplay despite this missing chunk of knowledge, but I'm *hoping* at some point we'll find out. :) Otherwise, I've got at least a couple headcanony theories cooked up, just in case!
