I glanced nervously at the watch on my wrist once again, it showed I had been waiting in the pickup area at the airport for close to forty-five minutes. I really did not have the courage to call and have someone on the other end pickup and tell me something I did not wish to hear

I'd heard one or two things about Willow - just gossip on the watcher grapevine - but they were enough to make me feel a bit nervous. I decided to sit quietly and wait until everyone was settled before saying anything.

"Hi." I said, giving a friendly smile to the girl, glancing back then to Xander with a "who is she" look.

"You may be right there, Becca." Was really all I could think to say as the memory of what happened in England returned. My seeing the hellmouth, its teeth and knowing that it wanted to swallow the town, whole. All I could think of was that it had started, not yet here in Sunnydale, but places beyond, and it would soon make its way here.

"Did you guys want some? Because there is more in the kitchen."
A long day at school plus the thing with Spike plus having to take Gym, would make any girl resolute to trail mix. Damn, I thought, I forgot a drink. Oh well.
"So are we having a research party tonight? Because That could be a good excuse to get out of gym tomorrow." I smiled before stuffing my face again.

I was meant to be starting high school. Except I'd left it far behind me. Sort of forgotten about it with the whole my father figure being murdered and being in fear of my life sort of thing. But now I felt a pang. I wanted to stop running, and living in motels, and only having one change of clothing because that's all I had time to get. I wanted to be normal - or as normal as possible - and go to school and shop and be, well, 16.
I looked at Dawn hesitantly.
"Do you think your high school would take late registrations?" I asked quietly. "I-I mean, I guess I might be here a while. In Sunnydale, I mean," I added hastily, in case she thought I was presuming I could stay with her. "So I might as well go to school, right?"

"Um, I think so. I'm not sure about the late registration. But I could go ask tomorrow when I go." I mean if I go. "You might as well get a decent education during the day since not much happens during the day."
Eating more of my trail mix, I noticed I was running low. Good, That meant I could go get a soda. "Are you sure you guys dont want any? Its really good." Of course it was good, Mom was the one who invented it.

"I'll have some." Answering Dawn's offer of food, even if it was just a plate of trail mix.
"I'm going to take my things upstairs first." I said really to no one in particular, moving toward the stairs where I hesitated a moment before starting the climb to the second floor of the house.
Reaching the bedroom I stood just outside the doorway a moment, taking a deep breath before I allowed myself to enter the room I had not long ago shared with Tara. My gaze wandered around the interior as I walked to the bed, setting my bag down on the floor next to the bed. After a moment of lingering there I turned and retraced my steps back to the door and then headed back downstairs.

"Thanks, that would be great." I liked Dawn already. I know that was judging her quickly - I mean, she could be a bitch really - but she seemed nice. It had been ages since I'd talked to someone my own age. Stupid demon things with no eyes. Making me homeless and ruining my social life.
