Well, at least, it looks like I'm one. I've got the suit, the car, and the job. What more can a man want? Anya. I pushed the name out of my mind

So waiting this out is highly overrated and unbearable. So who honestly thinks that staying at home hopeless wishing that the mouth of hell under the new and improved High School wouldn't be all.. hellmouthy. Of course I had known this for quite sometime but now it had finally sunk in that there was no hope of me actually staying at the house. I practically had everything ready to leave even before the decision to leave the house but the wait for a cab was slightly torturing. I rubbed my palms slowly together as I stared at the door, sure he would take his time it's not like he has anything to worry about.
I had imaged all kinds of things that could of possibly happened since I left her this morning. Sure there was the stray vamp dusting itself by walking in the middle of a classroom but the thought of raw eggs actually being a demon that can take possession of my baby sister was more than a little alarming. Or a rogue witch mother that took over her daughters body and setting all the alternate cheerleaders on fire. I gulped as I thought of the Mayor, he could of totally laid eggs as we blew him up to spite us. I quickly jumped up, there was no time in waiting on a cab, I'd have to get there on foot plus it could be my pre-training warm-up fight. I grabbed a staked as I bolted right out of there.
As I ran I couldn't help but notice how much longer this would actually be instead of waiting on the stupid slow cab driver. I took deep breaths after every corner pacing myself for the long haul. I in no way trusted this place and couldn't help but wonder if it was that obvious. Sure Xander tried to explain that everything was safe, but knowing what each of us were going through how could he... He probably didn't I was just spazzing, and it was a for a damn good reason but the thought of anything happening scared me. I felt the sweat drop down as I approached my doom. It looked sturdy, well built and I could faintly smell the polished finish from one hundred feet away. It was taunting me from a far while intimidating me.
I ran in the building but slowly went to a walk as I reached the lobby. As I remembered the blueprints Xander had given my by heart, the only person I knew I could talk to without totally embarrassing Dawn was of course him. I kept my eyes open with each step I took. There was no way I was going to miss any inch of this place until I could feel that it was somehow safe. I narrowed my eyes as I finally got to the point of the Library..The place I myself used to call home, except for it wasn't anything like the old one.. It was well lit, new carpet and of course no demon dictionaries(well from what I could tell atleast.) I took a few more steps before feeling someone's hand on my shoulder followed by a voice I hadn't even heard before. I quickly grabbed his wrist, twisted it and sent him over my shoulder. However I was quickly shocked to find out it wasn't anything out of the ordinary and some strange man on the floor..
"-opps"
I halfway smiled as I felt his gaze on me, then the gaze of a few more people as the room started to fill with other construction workers. For the first time in a while I was starting to feel embarrassed in a crowded... Just like High School all over again.. I turned my head as I felt a slight bolt out of there was the only option but as I was quick to see Xander staring at possible one of his best co-workers hanging on the floor. I kept the awkward smile up as I slowly walked to him.
"Okay every," I said, bringing my hands together, "take 5. Joe take 10 or ask us to call an ambulance. Which ever you'd prefer." I looked at the Buffster.
"Good going, super secret Buffy." I grinned through. "I thought I told you we hadn't finished in her yet, even though, we'd finished the principal's office."
"What's up? Something dire?" Whispering, "Something we can fight? I'm bored."
I softly laughed as Xander made one of his famous puns that tend to always make the mood of everyone cheer just enough up. Taking a strand of my hair I pulled it behind my ear as the eyes slowly left from me as the all seemed to leave the room. It was strangely satisfying to know a slight conversation between the two of us couldn't be overheard. For a moment I had almost forgotten the whole part of keeping my extra curricular a secret.. I mean I hadn't really done that in a while, well I haven't really been in school for that long ago. As he asked the nearly impossible question to answer I slightly froze and spoke the first thing that popped in my head.
"-Mold"
I paused trying to find out where exactly I was going with this. Sure it was an important thing to talk about and something everyone should worry about. "-I mean, the school is completely free of that? Mold is another leading cause of death, and at it's best it's a huge nasty dire situation.."
I stopped myself from even taking it further. Sure this was something Xander was going to see right there and there was really no purpose of further embarrassment. I let out a sigh as I looked up at him.
"-I was worried about Dawn. She didn't call me.... I know, I'm being paranoid but what other option do I have at this option."
I shrugged as I could only hope he would understand, and he should given the fact he lived the hellmouth life as well. I crossed my arms, rubbing them to make the awkward greeting slowly leave from my mind. I kept looking around at the library that was in progress. Sure it was nothing like the old one and not in the same spot. The hellmouth was under the principals office and I knew that but when libraries are involved it's hard to forget where it last stood.
"It's not really the same is it? -The Library I mean.."
I looked at Spike before walking away. Dialing Buffy's number, I headed towards the stairs. He may not have wanted me to call her but I had no choice. Once up the stairs, I pressed the phone button and pushed the door open to the main hallway. Coast was cleared.
Hearing it ring, I wander down the hall to the girls bathroom. If I was going to skip Chem, I would do it in the girls' room. I got inside and headed towards the mirror. This place was so weird. I remembered hearing stories from Buffy but I never believed any of them. Now that I was going here, I would be able to live them.
"Buff, this is all new, no mold. Besides living in one of the hottest cities in America, making it all dry, there is no mold." I looked at her, really. The eyestrain was beinging to show. She was one worried little slayer.
"Let Dawn be a kid for a while. She'll call if something happens. And we'll spring into action, like we always do. Well, the 2/5th of us that are here." I turned my head sideways while she worried.
"The library is fine. Nothing under or around it. And I'll have it completely finished in a few days...if you quit hurting my workers."
I couldn't help but smile at him, he always did have of way of making things sound easier than of course they actually were. I laughed for a moment at how paranoid I must of looked to him, with all the things that go bump in the night you'd think something like this wouldn't be so hard to deal with. I put another strand of hair behind my ear as I gave myself a sigh of relief even though the relief wasn't really all there to begin with.
"You're right, this is just another obstacle we'll have to deal with when the not so good timing happens..."
....I quickly jumped as I felt a vibration along with a ring in my pocket. At first it caught me off guard and almost knocked the phone off my pocket..Then almost dropped it in my hands before narrowing my eyes. I should of known that something was going to happen I just didn't know when exactly it was going to strike...
"Like I said, not so good timing.. It's Dawn"
I was out of my feet with worry as I flipped the phone open. As I slowly brought it to my ears I wonder if this was something I was ready to hear. Mainly the part of my impulses being dead on and the school was doomed to explode at any given moment. After taking a deep breath, I pushed the words out of my mouth.
"-Dawn, what's wrong?"
I was worried more than ever and hoped she wasn't in too much trouble. Although I've taught her myself how to handle herself not even I can predict what type of bind she had mixed herself into.....
I watched Buffy freak as the cell rang. It was Dawn (well, who else was gonna be, me?)
She was worried, and all I could do was watch. I called the guys back in to work, so I could leave if necessary. No one was going to hurt Dawnie on my shift.
"You know how I told you I would call if something weird happened?" I looked around the bathroom to check if there was people inside. "Well something weird has happened."
I jumped on top of the counter as I put my flash light back in my backpack. "I went down to check the basement at lunch and someone was down there." How was I going to tell her that Spike was down there and all crazy?
"When I saw who it was, It was Spike. He..He was acting weird. Maybe it was the Hellmouth right below him or whatever. But he is back."
Spike....... No words could possibly leave my mouth as the thought of him of all people was here. The thought that he had actually been gone for a while and now to just suddenly appear out of no where had definitely caught me off guard. I wondered what I was going to do if anything, I wondered if this was something I could tell Xander as I slowly looked up at him. I shrugged it off fast as the I couldn't help but remember what Spike had done to me before I left.
"D-Dawn, Where are you now?"
I mustered out hoping that I could change the subject. It was a touchy one at that but Xander was the only one there the last time....
"Dawn, I'll go check it out, just stay above ground and-" I paused, "Do your homework"
I jumped when a girl walked into the bathroom. Geez le weeze. I need to so work on my nerves. "Buffy, You aren't going to go down there are you? Because if you then he'll know that I told you about him."
Moving out of the bathroom, I wandered down the hall. Going passed my Chem class, I sighed. "How can I do my homework when the only class that I knew I would have some is Chem and im obviously not in that class right now. Which I am going to need a note to prove to the teacher that I had a good reason why I wasnt there. Since it is your fault."
I walked down to the edge of the hallway before turning around. "Do you think you or Xander could come get me since I so dont want to go to gym? Please."
I grunted with utter disbelief that she would even want to please Spike of all people. Sure he, technically saved my sisters life a few or more times..But I was always helping him. I crossed one arm around my stomach as I was beginning to feel clueless as what exactly to do with all of this. I listened to her carefully sinking everything before even remotely thinking up a game plan. Sure enough nothing gamey come so the next best thing is to just jump forward head first.
I looked up at Xander and couldn't help but laugh. Sure there would be mobilizing to do, I wasn't exactly sure if it was the mobilizing he was exactly looking for. "Actually yes Xand." I paused as I pressed the phone up into my hear.
"Dawn, I'll send Xander to the Gym to pick you up." Reflecting a little on the past I had to add, "He has gotten me out of a few classes here and there. Just stay put, and be careful you never know what ghostly things this place has cooked up over the years."
I flipped the phone off, without saying goodbye. I was sure I'd never hear the end of it from her but understandably things were more confusing. I let out one more sigh before looking back up at Xander.
"Think you can handle it while.." Pausing, I made a quick choice of words before actually speaking and avoiding any type of scene. "-While I go check on a few things Dawn may or may not have seen?" I raise an eyebrow hoping his answer lead to nothing more than a yes.
"Sure Buff, you want me to go get the Dawnster? Out of Gym? I'd love to." I grinned. I hated Gym. In fact, nearly every person who ever went to highschool hated that class particularily.
I nodded my head at Xander, "No this looks pretty simple. Safe the girl from everyday detention." I stopped and gave him a quick smile. After patting him on the back to look over my shoulder I turned to him once more with hopefully enthusiaism.
"I figured this was up your alley."
I turned around to walk out there door. There was more important issue at hand.. A big one in fact, that I don't think I'm ready for. As I shut the door I leaned against the wall to take a breath. Here goes nothing..
I told Joe to take over, now that his head had stopped spinning, and headed toward the Gym. This should be a barrel of monkeys, without the barrel of course.
