You know you've settled into a new place when you walk into the kitchen in the morning and your first thought is "What's that smell?"

Went to see Oakland hip-hop group the Coup last night. Their openers, Crown City Rockers and the Lifesavas, were good, but I wasn't really feelin' the Coup for most of their set. It wasn't as good as seeing them in the Bay Area because not all their members could come out on tour. So no Pam the Funkstress, their turntablist, although the crowd was calling for her. No E-Roc. Much as I love Boots and Silkie, it just wasn't the same, having such a limited line-up. They did have a damn cute guitarist though.

Also! Berbati's Pan, where the Coup played, is next door to Voodoo Doughnut, which thewronghands told me about and which is every bit as awesome as its name suggests, and more so. I ordered the Blood-Filled Voodoo Doll, which has a strawberry jelly filling that leaks out a hole in the bottom, and this one had a frosting heart with two pretzel sticks stuck into it. Voodoo Doughnut also performs weddings, and its hours are 10pm to 10am. Yes, pm to am. Badass.

I fetched a coffee table, microwave, and TV from Zander's place last night - his house had a timely yard sale just after I got here. I have converted Zander to Schaffer the Darklord fandom, and we are going to see the man himself perform on Monday. Then, Gogol Bordello is on tour yet again (Josh, don't fuckin' miss them this time!) and will be playing here on the 19th, also at Berbati's Pan. Tonight I'm going to hang out with Emily and Eddie, the new Milwaukee transplants. They called last evening right after Zander did, and shortly before I headed out to see the Coup. Zander and I are going to the McMenamins in Gresham soon. I have the first beginnings of a social life. This is very cheering.

I also have an Oregon driver's license as of yesterday. The photo is *much* better than the one on my CA license was, besides showing me at age 23 and not 17. It's good through 2013! Jeebus. I can't find the original title to my car, though, so I need to order a duplicate from CA-DMV before I can register my car in Oregon. Still so many errands to do...
