I know it's a good week when my TODO list includes "register motorcycle at DMV" and "go target shooting w/family Saturday." Franklin Covey planners have a weekly list where you're supposed to put your personal goals for the week, in various categories, e.g. Mental, Emotional, Physical. I put target practice under "Spiritual."
I should have just not bothered registering at DMV, for various reasons, and simply waited until I got to Oregon. Like DMV needs more of my money. Blah.
Tonight was my very last night of pool with my team (unless we make the playoffs), as it was the last week of league play this session, and I lost pretty handily. Bad way to bow out. Blah.
Very lazy about writing Defcon post. It's so scandalous, if only I can muster the will. Really should've done that right after the fact. Maybe a post of quick impressions is the way to go. There's also that whole creative writing thing that I neglect sorely nowadays. The time I spent writing this post I could've used writing either of those. Blah.
SES in San Jose today was okay. I got to have a leisurely morning at home, go to DMV, and not go to SF for once. So nice. I went to three sessions and learned some stuff, but it was not as fun as the party last night at Google, which Google holds every year for SES attendees. At lunch today I talked to a guy who managed to accidentally get on the Google employee bus instead of the conference attendee bus when the party was over last night, around 10:30 or 11pm. He fell asleep and woke up in San Francisco, but didn't realize he wasn't in San Jose until he told a taxi driver to take him to the Marriott. On arrival:
Guy: "This isn't the Marriott!"
Taxi driver: "Yes it is!"
Guy: "No it's not!"
TD: "OK, it's the back entrance."
Guy: "Oh, OK." *goes inside* "Hey! This isn't the fucking Marriott!"
Concierge: "Yes it is!"
Guy: "Is there another Marriott?"
C: "Where do you think you are?"
Guy: "The San Jose Marriott!"
C: "Sir, you're in San Francisco!"
*$180 cab ride ensues*
He phoned ahead to his cohorts, and when he walked into the hotel bar upon finally getting back, he got a round of applause.
After lunch, I had some time to kill, so I went to
the Tech Museum's gift shop, which had nothing sufficiently tempting, and
SJMoA's gift shop, which had much that was tempting. I got two cards and a cool shirt with a picture of a geisha looking at herself in a mirror and some kana I can't read that probably say "I am a vain strumpet." One of the cards shows a painting of a local hillside, with golden grass and poufy dark green trees. That's exactly what the Bay Area is to me, landscape-wise, so I bought it to keep as a reminder of home after I move. I'm going to frame it and inscribe a legend that reads "
HEIMWEH."
Speaking of German,
wintamute is in town with his new wife! We are having lunch tomorrow! Also, speaking of DJs, I ran into
polymorf last Monday. He is back from Grenada and looks great. Hurrah!
BTW, different tagging systems mess me up. On LJ you separate them with commas, but on
del.icio.us you don't. Aiee!
