Scientology and the IRS: Part Two

Dec 15, 2008 01:40

You may remember that 10 months ago I mentioned a case before the Ninth Circuit (again) concerning Scientology and the IRS. Well, there's been a decision, available here [PDF], and as Tax Prof reports, it was not favorable to the petitioners (again). Meaning the Scientologists are still special and unique snowflakes and everyone else can suck it. This is the right result, because under the Establishment Clause, nobody should get those special deductions, not even the Scientologists, but the Scientologists have a tendency to get their own way when it comes to the law. So... at least the exception hasn't been expanded... that's about the best I can say, and I haven't read the decision, just the blog post I linked to that quotes the decision. Yay.
