American Airlines, Google Settle Lawsuit

Jul 20, 2008 20:59

Good, good, good. This heads off any chance for bad precedent to come out of the Texas district court and reinforces the point I make in my forthcoming article on search engine liability for trademarked keyword purchases: It's useless to sue search engines anymore. If you want to sue somebody because your competitors are bidding on your trademarks as keywords in AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, etc., hey, here's an idea: sue your competitors, not the search engine. But remember, kids, litigation isn't a marketing strategy, nor is it a good business model for anyone but law firms (and possibly the Church of Scientology).

OK, I'm digressing. I'm happy with this result and I hope Google is too. Well done, Keker & Van Nest.
