Annalee has a post up at io9 about a clueless NYT article claiming that women don't like science fiction and the only way the Sci Fi network could get women to watch was by expanding the definition of "science fiction." I am so offended by this article that I actually wrote to the NYT about it. UGH.

This doesn't just touch on women and their chosen entertainment, either. This goes back to centuries of assumptions about the subjects that women are good at, and what they can/should be interested in.

Lame.

I read somewhere that Brit-com/sci-fi show Red Dwarf's audience is 50/50 but BBC management canceled the show in part because they thought it didn't have enough of that demographic nor the 18-49 yr old demographic, which of course is absurd...

I tend to like women who like SF. There are a lot of them, and I'd like for there to be even more of them than there are. The NYT article isn't helping. :-(

Basically just adding my voice to the "wtf women like scifi a whole hellavalot, you nerds" backlash.

Some of us are also nerds, by the way.
