The world is 8 people in size.

I had a meeting in the Paul Allen building and decided to hang around afterwards and get some homework done before going to the gym. I was there for two hours and didn't see anyone I'd just had the meeting with, but then just as I was packed up and heading out the door, supersat came down the stairs and said, "Want to come out for drinks?" And of course I really need to go to the gym, but I don't turn down random invitations like that, and this is why.

Random dinner invite turns into an outing of like 15 or 16 people to Ruby on the Ave and I turned out to have connections to like a third of them.

Amos was there who was at game day a few weeks ago with me, benefitz, jonsonite, misshepeshu, et al.

Amos was there with Alice who used to live with Madeline who was in the same webcomic I was in when I lived in Portland which blues-dream drew and which also featured jessecoombs. There's this big pool of Reedies that I'm apparently connected to in various ways: Amos also knew David, a Reedie who was in my writing group in Portland.

jibb was there who went to Mudd with sithjawa who went to high school with me.

Jeffrey was there who is the only other person I have ever run into who went to my elementary school, Weibel (though he's a solid 4 years my junior so it wasn't like I knew him then).

And of course supersat knows evan and Aaron, both of whom I know from unrelated contexts.

And that's how I was connected to a large number of the strangers I went to dinner with.

I can go to the gym on Saturday.

Also? In comparison to almost everyone there, I AM FUCKING OLD. (Born during the first Reagan administration = normal, i.e. me; born during the second Reagan administration = OMG you're allowed to drive a car and be a grad student? srsly?)

uw, it's a small world after all, friends
