Phew. Today I took a huge load of clothing, shoes, and jewelry to Goodwill, went grocery shopping, paid bills, bought textbooks online, went to the gym, signed up for a weight-lifting class this quarter, made plans with kazzman to watch the Huskies crush Ohio State tomorrow from the comfort of a local divey sports bar, and dropped a hundred bucks on tickets to five upcoming concerts. It's been a long day! Hell, it's been a really eventful week!

Interviews status:

Portland: I got voicemail today inviting me for a callback with a big Portland firm, having received a rejection (!) from the other Portland firm I interviewed with. I've decided Portland's not in the cards for the future, much as I love the place, so I just gave 'em a call and said thanks but no thanks. I was kind of surprised I got a callback, actually, because the interviewers were rather rude and I was really turned off by that.

Seattle: I'm still waiting to hear back about my interview with that firm's Seattle office, though - I really liked the interviewer, so I'd like the chance to do a callback. I've already got a callback interview here in Seattle on Monday with the other Seattle firm I interviewed with; that interview went really well, too, despite my mispronouncing the firm's name during the interview (oops).

Bay Area: I'll be back in the Bay for interviews in mid-October with firms in SF and Palo Alto. Still waiting to hear back from two other SF/SV firms I interviewed with; hey firms, please to be calling me back so I can finalize my travel plans already, yo.

One of those two, I'll take a callback if they offer it and gladly, but as for the other one, I found out after my initial interview that they're defending Chevron in the whole murdering Nigerians thing, which is Not Cool, so screw them. Now, I'm not the sort to think badly of e.g. public defenders for representing accused murderers or anything, but just because I believe in the right to counsel doesn't mean I want to work at the firm that's defending (and hopefully will be losing) the Chevron case. (Of course, the Palo Alto firm had a rather high-profile naughty client situation last year, too, so maybe I'm just a hypocrite.)

My parents are super excited about the Palo Alto firm (where, as it turns out, one of my high school classmates now works; I'm hoping to meet with her during my callback). I kind of feel like my mom is living vicariously through me lately, in particular, so I have to be careful to remember to do what's best for me and not let my decisions be swayed by whether my parents would be proud or disappointed.

Anyway, mark your calendars, Bay Area peeps, and I'll see you at Bab5 on October 18.

And now I am going to watch season 3, disc 1 of the American "The Office" that I rented because I got hooked on the series last weekend at kushderuh's house (so much better than the American "Coupling"!) and season 2 ended on a cliffhanger. Woo! Friday night!
